Job Description

Job Summary:Buhler Versatile is seeking an experienced Purchasing Manager to join its procurement team located in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The ideal candidate will come from a similar type of manufacturing experience, with a focus on mechanical parts and commodities for a finished product. This could include mobile farm equipment, heavy construction equipment, buses, planes etc.Key Function:

  • Regular communication with the vendors
  • Setting strategic directions for material group family
  • Coaching and developing the team beyond the immediate needs
  • Good mentorship for developing buyers
Competencies:
  • Clear English communication skills
  • Ability to lead complex negotiations in English
Communication skills:
  • Produce clearly written and verbal communication
  • Communicate in a way that engages the audience and helps them understand and retain their message
  • Be proactive and creative in seeking opportunities to share information and knowledge
  • Use the most appropriate channels of communication within and between departments/divisions
  • Communicate effectively, both inside and outside the organization, on both simple and complex topics
Negotiation skills:
  • Plan, prepare and conduct negotiations supported by a fact-base
  • Consider broad commercial and non-commercial factors in negotiation
  • Define potential scenarios, negotiation roles and a negotiation strategy
  • Prepare and execute negotiation tactics and approaches including the ability to adapt/flex tactics during a negotiation
  • Achieve negotiation outcomes that are win-win results
  • Tactical in vendor negotiations
  • Ability to effectively think on your feet during negotiations
Presentation skills:
  • Present ideas effectively to individuals or groups.
  • Effective in a variety of formal and informal presentation settings: one-on-one, small, and large groups.
  • Command attention and manage group process during the presentation.
Problem-solving skills:
  • Ability to identify root causes and to solve problems for both short and long-term.
  • Apply basic problem-solving skills in all business areas and use multiple ways to solve also complex problems.
  • Undertake to solve a complex task by breaking it down into manageable parts in a systematic, detailed way.
  • Anticipate potential obstacles and develop contingency plans to overcome them.
  • Consider the organization’s priorities when making decisions or analyzing the costs and benefits of various alternative solutions.
Functional expertise:
  • Broad commercial and supply chain experience in commodities related to moving, mobile types of equipment.
  • Strong interaction with and influence of internal stakeholders and outside vendors.
  • Technical Background in the area of reading and understanding mechanical blueprints.
  • Post-secondary education is preferred.
  • Strong leadership skills.
