Sherritt’s common shares are listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol “S”.Position SummaryReporting to the Manager, Maintenance, the Supervisor, Maintenance will provide front line leadership and direction to the crews, coordinating the daily activities of plant maintenance to continually meet the business objectives of safe, efficient, and effective production. This position executes the development and maintenance plan for the crew that aligns with the overall Metals strategy for a 0 to 3-month time frame. The crew development and maintenance plan is in compliance with applicable safety and operations policies, standards, procedures, and the collective bargaining agreement.The position will be based out of our Fort Saskatchewan plant site.Accountabilities

  • Plan, organize and direct the day-to-day work of the maintenance crew, supporting the area business plan on a 0-3 month time frame.
  • Oversee the execution of scheduled work and contribute to removing obstacles that may arise in the implementation of standard operating procedures.
  • Participate in the development of and/or facilitate implementation of training and education plans for the team, ensuring adherence to the progression system requirements and verifying competency at all times for assigned activities. Ensure sufficient overlap of qualified personnel for all positions to minimize requirements for overtime.
  • Consistently meet reporting and record keeping requirements.
  • Ensure compliance to relevant provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Actively participate in workplace investigations and resolutions relating to the grievance process.
  • Manage the maintenance budget in relation to the maintenance and production facilities.
  • Implement an Asset Management strategy to maximize equipment availability.
  • Monitor and proactively respond to existing and potential environment, health, and safety incidents or community stakeholder concerns, ensuring incident response and management activities are carried out as required.
  • Organize, lead, and direct the crew activities in response to emergency conditions or incidents.
  • Develop amongst the crew a consistent understanding and application of standards and procedures with the objective of zero harm to employees, the environment, and neighboring communities.
  • Comply with all current regulatory, legal, and Sherritt policy requirements.
  • Establish and maintain a high level of employee engagement via effective communication, leadership field presence and guidance, and demonstrated behaviors for aligned culture.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to crews, ensuring established performance management expectations are adhered to and appropriate human resources policies are followed.
  • Implement and develop operational excellence plans and initiatives to foster continuous improvement.
  • Lead Daily Management meetings with crews.
  • Embed best operating practices into the day-to-day activities of the crew. Review, revise and support development of procedures, ensuring continuous improvement, relevance, and accuracy of procedures and instructions.
  • Support the implementation of the Asset Management strategy for the designated area.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Degree/Diploma/Trade Certification (maintenance and/or engineering with relevant experience)
  • Minimum of 7 years of large process plant maintenance experience
  • Asset Management knowledge
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft programs including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
  • Prior experience with maintenance management systems such as EAM, Maximo, SAP, etc would be an asset.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, apply 6S principles and effectively manage info centers.
  • Effective communication skills both verbal and written
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to multitask.
  • Strong problem solving skills.
  • Managing within a unionized workforce.
