Job Description

The RoleThe role of Waste Management is to support delivery of Shell’s Strategic Ambitions and Aspired Portfolio through our Winning Capabilities in a complex world subject to diverse economic, societal, environmental, and political drivers. Effective management of our environmental risks and opportunities is integral in this success and we are committed to protect the environment, respect our neighbors, cause no harm to people and help the world move towards a lower carbon future. The specialist’s focus is embodied in the comply/improve/prepare agenda which: ensures external Regulatory compliance in operations, ensures internal environmental compliance in all Shell activities, facilitates environmental performance improvements in business execution and prepares for the environmental challenges and opportunities of the future.The main function of this job is to ensure that all waste generated by the Shell Scotford Complex is tracked and reported according to the 4 asset approval requirements and ensures that all materials shipped outside of Canada comply to all import/export regulations.Responsibilities:

  • Waste Subject Matter Expert (SME) to meet Shell HSSE & SP Control Framework Requirements
  • Provide feedback as to which waste receivers need to be reviewed/audited for the following year and fill out any single source audit request forms which includes speaking to each off-site waste receiver to ensure they support the audit
  • Day to day waste handling/storage/treatment disposal activities
  • Day to day catalyst handling/storage/disposal activities
  • Working with contractor to ensure waste profiling of material is correct.
  • Carrying out planned and scheduled waste management activities with the movements of waste to offsite with other departments
  • Ensuring that required documents/reports (i.e. waste manifest, bill of lading) are prepared, reviewed and submitted per government legislation for waste management, including company retention standards for documents
  • Apply for Transborder Export Permits annually and as required to support the business
  • Lead/support waste elimination, reduction, reuse, recycling tactics
  • Prepare and submit Annual waste reports for the 4 assets
  • Maintain and update waste documents to ensure compliance to internal standards
  • Support to the Waste Team Lead with the planning/scheduling cycle each year by reviewing the production and maintenance plans
  • Support for the disposal/recycling/regeneration/recovery of spent catalyst
  • ISO 14001 compliance & Responsible Care for Scotford site
  • Member of the site Incident Command Team (ICT)
Skills & Requirements
  • Chemistry degree preferred
  • Minimum 5+ years of related experience
  • Alberta Waste Managers Training considered an asset
  • Competent in the use of the Alberta user guide for waste managers
  • E-manifesting experience
  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Advanced Transportation of Dangerous Goods certification
  • ICS 200-300 would be considered an asset
