Job Description

The Quinte Detention Centre is seeking an experienced administrative professional to provide telephone reception services and clerical support for the institution.What can I expect to do in this roleIn this role, you will:

  • Provide reception services by operating a multiple-line telephone switchboard
  • Screen and direct calls, and answer general inquiries
  • Take message and relay important information
  • Prepare a variety of correspondence, including letters, forms, memos and reports
  • Proof-read and check documents for accuracy
  • Maintain spreadsheets and telephone listings
  • Maintain inventory lists and order supplies
  • Provide mail services
How do I qualifyKnowledge and Experience
  • You demonstrate experience in performing a variety of reception and clerical services
  • You can interpret and apply policies and guidelines related to the release of information
  • You have knowledge of and experience in operating a multi-line telephone switchboard
Communication and Interpersonal Skills
  • You can communicate effectively in person or by phone, and deal with irate callers
  • You can use tact and courtesy when communicating with staff and the public
  • You are a great team player and can work effectively in a team environment
Computer Skills
  • You are proficient in MS Office to prepare a variety of correspondence, including letters, forms, memos, reports and spreadsheets
Organizational and Judgement Skills
  • You can exercise judgement when sorting mails, and resolve routine problems
  • You can prioritize work to meet deadlines
