  • provide technical expertise in the review and assessment of technical documents to ensure compliance with provisions of the Mining Act
  • lead and coordinate the processing of assessment submissions and regularly assess data quality levels and ensure quality issues are addressed
  • lead and coordinate the planning and development of research projects
  • prepare/lead the preparation of complex written materials
  • develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • oversee daily activities of section staff, including assignment of work, technical guidance, and ensuring section staff provide a high standard of service delivery
  • oversee and coordinate the maintenance of the office equipment
  • participate in field site inspections as required
How do I qualifyTechnical expertise:
  • ability to interpret and apply Mining Act legislation and regulations as well as other relevant Acts relating to land and land tenure
  • knowledge of geosciences including geology, geophysics, geochemistry, mineral exploration practices, geotechnical assessment methodologies and the mining industry
  • knowledge of field inspection practices and mining health and safety guidelines
Communication and interpersonal skills:
  • demonstrated tactical communication skills to maintain composure and diffuse situations from irate and upset clients
  • you have a customer service-oriented commitment to provide a consistent high level of courtesy, professionalism, tact and diplomacy to clients and stakeholders
  • proven communication skills to prepare reports, briefing materials and correspondence, and to represent the ministry on committees and working groups
Leadership and project management skills:
  • demonstrated leadership skills to assist the Manager with respect to the daily operation of the section and to provide technical guidance and leadership to staff including the coordination of workload priorities
  • knowledge of project management and research techniques, skills and principles to design, plan and lead research and other projects
Analytical and problem-solving skills:
  • excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to evaluate and analyze program data and information for accuracy, integrity, quality control, and to recognize issues and data errors and take corrective action to ensure accuracy of information
Essential skills:
  • excellent organizational and planning skills to ensure the review and assessment of documents are completed within legislated timelines
  • proficiency with computers and common office productivity software, such as word processing, spreadsheet, database, email and internet applications
