Job Description

  • Ensure the efficient operation of the Citizen Service Centres and library branches; lead, guide and train staff; review and recommend operational procedures to the Manager of Citizen Service Centres.
  • Perform branch collection development, organization and maintenance. Prepare reports as requested. Perform bibliographic checking.
  • Perform public relations duties including but not limited to story hours, library tours, book reviews, hosting programs, displays. Keep abreast of new developments in the library field.
  • Assist in the recruitment process; support and coach staff; assist with performance reviews.
  • Act as Commissioner of Oaths as required.
  • Perform duties of Citizen Service Representative (including library services).
  • Prepare and input payroll exception reports.
  • Prepare draft monthly staffing schedule for the Manager of Citizen Service Centre’s approval.
  • Arrange for emergency relief staff as required.
  • Ensure security of premises and act as key contact in case of emergency.
  • Ensure all machines and equipment are functioning properly and contact appropriate company for repairs.
  • Requisition and maintain an adequate level of office supplies.
  • Prepare monthly and annual statistics.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of CGSs Safety Manual and the applicable Provincial Legislation listed therein.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
  • Successful completion of a Community College Diploma Course in Library and Information Technology or Business Administration.
  • Over two and one-half (2½) years up to and including five (5) years related experience.
  • Knowledge of best practices within areas of responsibility.
  • Knowledge of library services and operations.
  • Knowledge of municipal services and departments.
  • Knowledge of various computer applications including Windows based systems, word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Knowledge of library automated systems, PerfectMind System and customer relationship management software an asset.
  • Ability to understand and meet the needs of customers.
  • Ability to demonstrate supervisory and administrative ability.
  • Ability to demonstrate interpersonal skills in dealing with the public in a courteous and effective manner.
  • Ability to demonstrate organizational skills and attention to detailed work.
  • Ability to demonstrate accurate keyboarding skills.
  • Excellent use of English; verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent use of French verbally and in writing is required for the Valley East CSC location.
  • Satisfactory health, attendance and former employment history.
  • Must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess a valid driver’s licence, have an acceptable driving record, and personal insurance coverage.
