Salary: $39.14 – $46.02 per hour (as per CUPE collective agreement)Position summary:We are currently seeking a highly motivated health professional to contribute to our organizational mission of working with our communities to promote and protect health and prevent disease.Reporting to the Manager and working with other members of Knowledge and Strategic Services, the Data Analyst will manage and analyze data and information to support health planning and policy analysis. The Data Analyst will analyze and compile data from research projects and participate in the development and management of databases on demographics, health status and/or on determinants of health.This position works in collaboration with the Epidemiologist(s), program division staff and other members of Knowledge and Strategic Services.Responsibilities:
  • Performs analyses of large population health databases such as vital statistics, census data, Canadian Community Health Survey, and the Rapid Risk Factor Surveillance System.
  • Conducts reviews, identifies data collection tools, develops questionnaires and rating forms.
  • Participates in the development, management and statistical analyses of data.
  • Classifies, validates and analyzes datasets using statistical methods and epidemiological principles.
  • Assists with identification and securing various sources of data, determines methods of collecting and creating information as needed.
  • Assists with production of reports for publication, presentation and public dissemination.
  • Contributes to the research and evaluation work plan of Knowledge and Strategic Services and of the agency.
  • Submits requests for professional supplies and expenditures to the Manager.
  • Acts as resource person to staff on data collection, analysis and interpretation.
  • Develops data entry templates and assists staff with utilizing data entry templates.
  • Works with other members of the Population Health Assessment and Surveillance team and the Health Protection division as required to enter data during community outbreaks.
  • Provides training in data analysis and data analysis tools, as appropriate.
  • Collaborates with other members of Knowledge and Strategic Services on web survey development.
  • Contributes to the development of program plans and develops, plans, implements, coordinates and evaluates assigned projects in consultation with the manager and other team members as required.
  • Participates in the orientation of staff, students, volunteers and others as may be required for the position.
  • Provides input into the budget process upon request.
Requirements:
  • Masters Degree or equivalent experience/education in epidemiology, health information, statistics, social sciences or related field.
  • Minimum three years experience with relevant computer programs including quantitative and qualitative data analysis – e.g. Stata, Epi-Info, NUD*IST, mapping programs, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Reference Manager, etc.
  • Familiarity with public health services including planning, implementation and evaluation, health promotion strategies and research and policy analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience in complex data analyses, interpretation, and report writing.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage several concurrent projects efficiently.
  • Demonstrated experience in organizational and project management skills.
  • Proven ability to work in a multidisciplinary team setting.
  • Advanced oral and written proficiency in English is essential.
  • Advanced oral and written proficiency in French is an asset.
  • Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.
