ATIKAMEKSHENG ANISHNAWBEKAtikameksheng Anishnawbek will thrive together as a strong and proud Nation by honouring our gifts of Anishinabemowin and the Life of the Land.Competition Number: 2022 - 019Position: Family Well-Being WorkerDepartment: Social ServicesEmployment Status: Contract Ending March 31, 2023Salary: $27.16 - $33.12/HR – 35 Hours per WeekLocation: Naughton, ONClosing Date: July 7, 2022, at 4:00pmPOSITION SCOPE:The Family Well-Being Worker will work towards reducing the number of families affected by Indigenous children and youth in the child welfare and youth justice systems by reducing the need to bring children into care. The Family Well-Being Worker is responsible to develop, coordinate and deliver programs and services that focus on the reduction of the occurrence of violence in families, and the improvement of the overall health and well-being of communities. This program is prevention focused, community-led, and will address the root causes of violence, trauma and over-representation of Indigenous children and youth in child welfare and youth justice systems.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Education and Experience

  • University Degree in a health or social services discipline or;
  • Community College Diploma in a health or social services discipline
  • Two years of work experience in the health or social services sector
  • Experience working in an Aboriginal organization and/or community
Knowledge and Skills
  • Respect for, sensitivity towards as well as knowledge and understanding of Anishnawbek culture, traditions and the Seven Grandfather Teachings
  • Knowledge of internal/external services and service agencies
  • Strong interpersonal skills, time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills with MS Office software
  • Ability to use good judgment to assess difficult situations
  • Ability to work within a team environment
  • Ability to take initiative
  • Ability to meet deadlines and administer multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to display a positive and helpful attitude
Additional Requirements
  • Must be able to provide a Canadian Police Records Information Centre check (CPIC) and a Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS)
  • Must have a Class G or Class "G2" Ontario Drivers License, access to a vehicle and the ability to travel
  • Have or be willing to obtain First Aid & CPR certification
  • Must be able to work flexible hours
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Promote the Atikameksheng Anishnawbek Vision and Mission Statements
  • Maintain the level of professionalism expected by the Atikameksheng Anishnawbek as outlined through relevant organizational policies and procedures
  • Uphold the ethics of their position and the Education & Social Services Team
  • Promote the health and well-being of families
  • Provide prenatal and parenting workshops and supports
  • Provide land-based youth and family programming
  • Provide culture-based workshops and life skills support
  • Provide system navigation and advocacy for the youth or family court system
  • Provide individual or family-based programming on violence
  • Connect clients to existing services and programs in the community
  • Provide individual and/or family sessions/circles to community members on well-being or violence
  • Refer to other relevant counseling services and/or
Program DevelopmentThe Family Well-Being Worker will play a key role in planning, developing and implementing family well-being promotional, educational and prevention activities and engaging community members to participate in health & social programming.Administration and Reporting
  • Complete administrative functions and adhere to First Nation policies, procedures and relevant practice.
  • Ensure confidentiality and safekeeping of all First Nation documents and records
  • Develop and maintain accurate, up-to-date and concise work files
  • Work in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act and any other relevant legislation
  • Meet jointly with the family and referral sources to clarify areas of responsibility and work on identifying goals together
  • Complete statistical and financial reporting as per funding agreements
  • Prepare and submit monthly reports, attendance records and travel expense claims
  • Participate in staff annual work plan and strategic planning sessions
  • Other duties as required and assigned
