  • provide technical and geoscience project support services
  • assist in compiling, updating and correcting geologic and geochemical data and information for OGS reports, maps and databases
  • assist geoscientific staff with the preparation of geological samples
  • conduct quality assurance and control on geologic and geochemical data and review geologic data sets for compliance with established quality standards
  • assist in extracting geologic information from a variety of datasets including remotely sensed imagery, digital and hardcopy geologic information sets
  • complete various data handling and processing procedures
  • assist with literature and reference research, and provide general technical assistance
How do I qualifyMandatory
  • valid drivers license to conduct fieldwork in Ontario locations not easily accessible by other means
Specialized knowledge:
  • knowledge and understanding of geological principles normally obtained through a combination of formal education and experience
  • knowledge of common techniques and equipment used in geological and geochemical fieldwork, preparation of samples and quality control materials
  • knowledge and understanding of geological sample types, collection methods, sample processing techniques and both field and analytical quality control methods and data types.
  • understanding of techniques for safe handling and storage of chemicals including strong acids.
  • knowledge of search techniques to derive and query information from technical resources such as geochemical and geologic datasets, air photos, topographic maps and assist in the compilation of background data and information for reports and maps
Technical/computer knowledge:
  • knowledge and experience with computer software including GIS (e.g. ArcView), spreadsheets (e.g. Excel), databases (e.g. Access) and graphical programs (e.g. CorelDraw)
  • familiar with industry standard software, common techniques and hardware/equipment used in manipulating or processing surficial and bedrock data and information
  • knowledge and understanding of data handling principles, data management and processing techniques
  • knowledge of remotely sensed imagery and geological data types and principles involved in their collection and usage
Communication and interpersonal skills:
  • communication and interpersonal skills to interact and provide information and respond to inquiries from clients
  • ability to work in a team and collaborate effectively with professional staff
Organizational and planning skills
  • organizational skills to prioritize competing work demands
