We are currently looking for a Norquay Trainer to join our team of committed professionals.This full-time contract position within the Association is housed at the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario’s YMCA John Island Camp location in Spanish, Ontario. Under the supervision of the Leadership & Out-Tripping Manager the Norquay trainer is responsible for the planning, implementation, facilitation, debriefing and evaluation of the second year Leadership Development Program. START DATE June 27, 2022 LOCATION Spanish, Ontario RATE OF PAY TBD HOURS Summer Contract SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS • Possession of an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) considered an asset *for education completed outside of Canada, applicants are required to submit a WES with their application • Working towards a College diploma in outdoor recreation or related field • Experience working with campers aged 14-16 • 50 days logged as a camping trip leader • Experience leading wilderness trips in a variety of skill sets (canoe, sea kayak, hike) • Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification (or willing to obtain) • ORCKA Canoe Tripping & Moving Water Certification (or willing to obtain) • Current Standard First Aid and CPR C • Bilingualism in both official languages considered an asset • Current and Satisfactory Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES • Plan, organize and implement the Norquay River program • Support and lead Norquay River participants and focus on their technical skills such as whitewater wilderness expedition, risk management, and other program areas of camp • Promote leadership skills for campers while providing experiences in wilderness travel, whitewater canoeing and camper care skills • Follow and implement the Norquay curriculum as it is found in the Norquay trainer manual • Build relationships with and be a positive role model for all camper and other staff members • Assist in other areas of camp as well as programming and provide support during Family Camp As a condition of employment, all new employees prior to their start date will be required to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have a valid Human Rights Code-related exemption.
