Educational Assistant-Behaviour Support WorkerPermanent position, 35 hours per weekOpen to Board Employees and External ApplicantsJoin our dynamic team, as we work together to create safe, caring school environments where all students can thrive. We are dedicated to nurturing and developing the mind, body and spirit of every student within our inclusive Catholic learning community.Educational Assistants (EA) support educational programs in elementary and secondary schools. The EAs key role is to support individual students, or groups of students. They work under the guidance of teachers and under the supervision of the principal. The EA is assigned, at the principal’s discretion, to meet the needs of specific students and/or program needs within the school.ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONSCollege Diploma in Child and Youth Care Worker (CYW), Developmental Service Worker (DSW), Educational Assistant (EA) or a College Diploma/University Degree in a related fieldOne year experience in a related fieldBroad knowledge of child developmentExcellent interpersonal skills with proven ability to work as a member of a teamAbility to effectively communicate and relate to people tactfully, diplomatically, and professionallyBroad knowledge of assistive devicesExcellent communication skills both verbal and writtenHigh levels of patienceExcellent problem-solving skillsExcellent negotiation and mediation skillsAbility to be sensitive to the needs of students with exceptionalitiesAbility to recognize individual learning styles and the characteristics of learnersHigh level of attention to confidentialityProficient in the use of word processing software, Internet and emailAbility to provide regular attendanceAbility to provide attention to detailWorking knowledge of Personal Health Information Protection ActStanding and walking for extended periods of timeAbility to assist students as required (e.g. repetitive bending, assisting children with carrying their belongings, and transferring and positioning students)PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSBehaviour management certification (BMS)CPI certificationFirst Aid Certification & CPR CertificationExperience in a classroom setting and Working knowledge of the IEP, Behaviour Safety Plans and Behaviour Management Plans an assetExperience with ABA strategies or assisting students with AutismHours of work: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday. The annual work schedule typically follows the school year calendar and may include additional days if required.Salary to be commensurate with recent related experience and education; salary range will be $28.40 to $35.48 hourly plus vacation pay which graduates with years of service.
