Position summary:Reporting to the Program Manager, the Program Officer will provide overall support in the delivery of programs and services, and will work closely with the Program Manager, in the monitoring of staff, resources and in accordance with agency policy and applicable legislation.Responsibilities:
  • Provides overall support to the manager in the delivery of assigned programs according to Ministry standards and applicable legislation.
  • Supports the Manager in the development, maintenance, and adherence to inter-agency protocols.
  • In collaboration with the Manager, ensures efficient program delivery through the effective leadership of a team.
  • Supports the Manager and the team in the development, implementation, and monitoring of program plans and continuous quality improvement efforts.
  • In collaboration with the Manager, is responsible for the supervision of employees, students and volunteers in accordance with agency policies, collective agreements and applicable legislation.
  • Identifies staff development needs, in consultation with staff and the Manager.
  • Develops, coordinates and participates in appropriate training and orientation programs for designated staff, students or volunteers.
  • Investigates and participates in the resolution of situations requiring follow-up in consultation with the Manager. This may include but is not limited to complaints from clients/public/partners, breaches in vaccine storage, handling or vaccine management.
Requirements:
  • Recognized bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to public health practice.
  • Experience in public health or relevant setting combined with progressive supervisory and administrative responsibility, experience in community partnerships, education and in applied community health research, including program planning and evaluation.
  • Knowledge and abilities in the areas of human resources, labour relations, team building, policy development, financial management, as well as quality and risk management.
  • Familiarity with the Ontario Public Health Standards: Requirements for Programs, Services, and Accountability and the public health system.
  • Demonstrated project/program management, interpersonal and administrative skills, including the ability to organize multiple tasks/projects, set priorities, establish timeframes, and organize resources.
  • Knowledge of continuous quality improvement (CQI) principles, methods, and techniques.
  • Proficiency in computer software application(s) applicable to assignment areas is required.
  • Ability to complete assignments with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to handle sensitive issues diplomatically and confidentially.
  • Ability to work independently and as an integral team member.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Advanced oral and written proficiency in English is essential.
  • Oral and written proficiency in French is an asset.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and maintain flexible hours.
  • Satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal reference check.
  • Current Ontario driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
