Job Description

RESEARCH COORDINATOR – EMERGENCY MEDICINEHealth Sciences North Research InstituteRamsey Lake Health Centre, Sudbury, OntarioTemporary-Full-TimePosition SummaryUnder the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Research Coordinator will be responsible for assisting in various research tasks related to Emergency Medicine studies. The Research Coordinator will assist in project planning and ensure that the pre-established work scope, study protocol, and regulatory requirements are followed. The Research Coordinator will assist the Principal Investigator by overseeing and coordinating the collection of data and the recruitment of eligible patients as well as maintaining and updating research databases. The Research Coordinator should possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, and work effectively in a team environment and independently with minimal supervision. Responsibilities

  • Understand the objectives of the various Emergency Medicine studies for which s/he is overseeing.
  • Oversee the collection, entry, verification, management, tracking, and reporting of data and other documents related to study management.
  • Create data collection forms, error checking methods and related programmes for efficient collection, analysis and reporting.
  • Coordinate data collection from other study sites.
  • Prepare required study documentation/updates and other required tools for the project.
  • Train and support Research Assistants and other study staff in the processing of study data (i.e. data entry).
  • Screen, recruit and obtain informed consent and follow-up of research patients.
  • Maintain and update research databases and trackers.
  • Implement quality control processes throughout the study, verify accuracy and validity of data entered in databases; correct any errors.
  • Monitor the progress of research activities.
  • Prepare periodic and ad hoc reports, as require by the Principal Investigator.
  • Work closely with the Principal Investigator in writing manuscripts and preparing articles for publication in recognized scientific or medical journals.
  • Performs other related duties, as required.
QualificationsEducation and Experience
  • Post-secondary degree in a related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience / Special Skills / Training
  • Prior knowledge of Emergency Medicine studies considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, databases, RedCap, Adobe Illustrator and other specialized software required.
  • Superior organizational and time-management skills.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Professional demeanour, people skills and the ability to interact, communicate with all levels of support, administrative, management, clinicians and researchers as well as study participants.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and also as part of a team.
  • Critical thinking ability with excellent problem solving skills.
  • Reliable and responsible, honest and ethical, flexible and open to feedback, and tolerant of different stress levels are an asset.
  • Knowledge on health and safety policies, tri-council policies on research, research ethics with regards clinical trials considered an asset.

Hours
  • Typically a 37.5 hour work week. Schedule may vary to meet demands, may be required to work outside of regular working days/hours.
