Job descriptionJOB TITLE: Maintenance WorkerACCOUNTABLE TO: AdministratorJOB SUMMARY: This position is approx 8 hours of yard work and 16 hours within the facility each week. The Maintenance Worker shall have the general charge of the maintenance and upkeep of the exterior and interior envelope of the Home under the direction of the Administrator.This individual must be willing to support a philosophy of independence and dignity for the Residents and be flexible in relating with Residents, families, and staff.WORKING CONDITION: * Works in a well-lit and ventilated area;* Subject to frequent interruptions;* Sitting, standing, bending, lifting and moving intermittently during work hours;* Subject to intermittent, low level, technical machinery noises.QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Must be self directed, dependable, conscientious, and lead by example;2. Ability to organize and complete assigned workloads;3. Demonstrates competency with maintenance procedures;4. Previous experience in maintenance management would be an asset;5. Must be in general good health;6. Able to work as part of a team with other Departments;7. Additional mechanical/technical qualifications, NSCC.RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Adheres to the Policies and Procedures of the Home, the Long-Term Care (LTC) Program Requirements, and “Nursing Home Building Maintenance Standards” Nova Scotia Health and Wellness August 2013;2. Manages and conducts daily, weekly, and monthly inspections/checks required in the Preventive Maintenance Program as per parameters outlined in the Homes Policies and Procedures, the LTC Program Requirements, and Nursing Home Maintenance Standards.3. Ensure deliveries are moved to storage in a timely manner, move and store supplies and equipment, bring supplies from bulk storage as required and when requested;4. Promptly reports any equipment malfunctions to the Administrator and appropriate Department Head (Directors of Care and Support Service, etc.);5. Follows procedures for the collection, storage and transfer of sharps, biological waste, pathological waste, and general waste;6. Reports to the Administrator/Supervisor at the earliest opportunity the presence of contractors servicing equipment in the building;7. Performs and/or co-ordinates grounds keeping and snow removal (where applicable);8. Make adjustments and minor repairs to heating, cooling, ventilation, plumbing, electrical systems, etc.;9. Performs other routine maintenance such as painting, drywall repair etc.;10. Ensures that security and safety measures are in place;11. Attends Departmental Meetings as required and serves on other Committees as required (i.e. Occupational Health and Safety and Emergency Management Planning, etc.);12. Conducts monthly Fire Drills and performs the duties of Fire Warden (annual inspection identifying fire hazards and impediments to safe egress from the building);13. Offers education to members of the Management Team and staff as required (i.e. Tool Box Talks, Orientation of new staff, etc.);14. Assists Administrator with the coordination of Capital Projects as required;15. Knowledge of contractors, technicians, and service representatives utilized by the Home;16. Attends training/education, conferences, etc. as directed and approved by the Administrator;17. Available for emergency calls;18. These duties are intended as a general guide and other related duties may be assigned by the Administrator for the efficient and effective operation of the Home.Job Types: CasualJob Type: CasualFlexible language requirement:
