Our 6,000 faculty and staff foster a vibrant, purpose-driven community, that celebrated 200 years of academic excellence in 2018.Job SummaryThe Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS) is home to over 3500 students studying in a wide variety of fields. Our students are training to be leaders in industry and government and contribute to a lively and productive atmosphere of innovation at Dalhousie. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Academic Regulations and Student Services, the Admissions Liaison Officer will enthusiastically provide education, advocacy, and support for graduate departments as they work to assess applicants for admission that align with FGS regulations.Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in or lead various activities related to strategic planning within FGS related to admissions activities.
  • Maintain good working knowledge of national and international graduate admissions trends and best practices. Monitor and evaluate market trends regionally, nationally and internationally, as well as internal trends at Dalhousie. Determine the impact of these trends on Graduate Studies and the University’s ability to meet enrolment objectives.
  • Provide leadership, advice and education to departments on graduate admissions policies, requirements and procedures to ensure applicants are recruited and treated in an equitable and inclusive manner.
  • Ensure graduate admissions systems are working accurately, identifying unusual trends that require attention. Develop plans for process improvements, modifications or tools/systems required to improve operations.
  • Identify and diplomatically pursue Graduate Studies engagement with university level agency partnerships. Collaborate with the Registrar’s Office and the Office of International Relations to identify partnerships that benefit graduate recruitment. Liaise with graduate studies personnel at other universities and other agencies.
  • Lead the Application Processing Team in FGS, which includes the direct supervision of the Graduate Applications Coordinator.
NoteThe successful candidate is expected to be available to work on campus and will be required to provide proof of vaccination or twice-weekly COVID tests in accordance with University policies.QualificationsUndergraduate degree plus three to five years’ related admissions, recruitment or registrarial experience in a university setting (or equivalent combination of training and experience) is required. Knowledge of graduate programs and degrees required; experience with international students and worldwide educational programs preferred. Excellent presentation, interpersonal, problem solving, communication (written and verbal), and organizational skills are required. The position requires thorough knowledge of international education systems and English Language testing, and how these systems compare to the Canadian education system.
