You will be part of a team that provides children, youth, and adults of all ages a sense of belonging in their community.The Opportunity Reporting to the Aquatics Manager, the Aquatics Leadership Instructor is responsible for the facilitation and delivery of Aquatic leadership programming in areas of Bronze Medal, Standard First Aid, National Lifeguard, etc.This position is an integral component for ensuring front line delivery of leadership program courses in support of departmental and Association objectives.This position models our Y core value system in providing a positive, safe, meaningful program experience through course delivery and interactions with staff and volunteers. Responsibilities

  • Deliver multiple aquatic leadership courses in a way that aligns with the core YMCA mandate and values, along with those of the Lifesaving society
  • Create lesson plans where required, while meeting serving All Members (SAM) standards, ensuring high level of participant satisfaction and engagement to promote learning
  • Facilitate of all lesson plans, whether in the pool or in a classroom setting
  • Build, foster, and maintain positive working relationships with participants, community members, staff and volunteers through positive internal/external communications, timely response to questions and issue resolution
Qualificationsamp; Skills
  • 1-3 years experience in delivering Aquatics programming an asset
  • Valid Standard First Aid/CPR are required
  • One of the following: Examiner status, National Lifeguard Instructor, First Aid Instructor, Life Saving Society Trainer Certification etc.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish rapport with clients
  • Proven track record of leadership excellence and dedication to safety
  • Strong time management skills to ensure successful course completion
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours as required (full weekends if required)

Conditions of Employment
  • Clear Child Abuse Register Check
  • Current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check (must be dated less than 6 months from hire date)
  • Completion of YMCA’s Child Safetyamp; Protection Orientation within first week of employment
  • Completion of YMCA Child Safeguarding Training within probationary period
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certificate
