Job Description

Assistant ControllerHalifax, NSReference #HL- 16890Our client, Maritime Beauty, is a leading professional beauty supply distributor, founded in 1966 and serving the Maritime Provinces. With 17 locations across Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island, they have a long history of exceptional growth and success in the industry. They are proud to represent numerous top professional lines and are dedicated to remaining competitive in todays market.Now, in a time of growth, we are excited to partner with them looking for an Assistant Controller to join their team in Halifax.Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Assistant Controller will be responsible for assisting with the management and preparation of day-to-day financial transactions.Responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring the accurate preparation and posting of journal entries
  • Preparing monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial analyzes and reports
  • Assisting in the preparation of financial statements, bank reconciliations, and other related tasks
  • Providing coverage during vacation or absence within the department
  • Analyzing and reporting cost variances
  • Creating ad-hoc reports to support other departments
  • Providing leadership, coaching, training, and mentoring to team as needed
  • Participating in budget planning and forecasting processes
  • Supporting and participating in financial and tax audits
  • Participating in the development and implementation of financial policies, procedures, and controls
  • Other related duties as assigned
The ideal candidate will possess:
  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance or other related field
  • CPA designation coupled with 3+ years of experience in full cycle accounting or finance roles, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting principles and regulations
  • Proven professional communication skills, including excellent interpersonal, written and verbal abilities
  • A strong work ethic and ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated project, people, and process management skills
  • Advanced analytical, research, and problem-solving abilities
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to multitask, prioritize, and adapt to changing priorities and deadlines
  • Proficiency in MS Office (MS Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and experience with accounting and financial management software and systems. Familiarity with AS400 is a desirable asset
