Job Description

Lions Head Tavern Job Description – Assistant ManagerThe Assistant manager position is designed to support, maintain and execute the restaurants standards of quality in food and beverage service. The Front of House Manager is responsible for the smooth execution and organization of all restaurant operations, as well as a supporting role in the delivery of amazing food, beverage & service. The FOH Manager is a member of the management team responsible for quality, labour and beverage related costs. This position also plays a key role in development of our guest service programs and managing group and event reservations. The FOH Manager plays an active sales role in promoting and garnering event business and acts as a role model, coach, leader, and ambassador for the Lions Head Tavern brand.Major Responsibilities

  • As a member of the management team, work to plan, coordinate, execute, supervise and evaluate all activities of a fast-paced restaurant, and provide excellent service to a wide variety of guests needs
  • Play a key role in the cycle of service, including hands-on and supervisory responsibility, ensuring that all products are produced in a timely and efficient manner, and meets the Lions Head Tavern’s standards for taste, quality and appearance
  • Hire, train, supervise and schedule staff members in the FOH. Ensure that staffing levels are necessary for providing great guest experiences, while adhering to labour budgets
  • Maintain a flexible work schedule in order to be available for busy service times, while completing all other work-related responsibilities. Ensure high visibility and availability to guests and associates
  • Development of staff in all the areas, motivate staff, resolve staff issues and promote a positive work environment
  • Ordering of all restaurants supplies for successful execution
  • Beverage recipe creation and upkeep of recipe data base
  • Uphold systems and standards of FOH operations by leading with professional examples and spot-checking
  • Accountable for supporting standards of cleanliness, timing, uniform, grooming, organization, production, food and beverage quality, and consistency
  • Monitors daily prep production of food to ensure readiness for service periods
  • Expected to train all FOH positions, systems, and use of equipment
  • Ensures high level of cleanliness
  • Notify the Operations Manager of any repairs required in the restaurant
  • Supervise and prepare FOH cleaning schedules and side duty lists
  • Responsible for checking all fridge temperatures are logged in a timely manner
  • Manages daily labour costs
Knowledge and Skills
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and written
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and with eagerness
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively and adapt to change
  • Enjoy a challenge and have fun doing it
  • Ability to create a work environment that encourages collaboration, contribution, creativity, frankness, honesty and shared respect
  • Able to make positive decisions under pressure
  • Adept at leading the entire restaurant team during times of elevated pressure
  • Able to conduct a new staff hire interview process
Education and / or Experience
  • Minimum 4 years in a casual restaurant or pub
  • Minimum 2 years in a similar management role
  • Ability to organize and execute restaurant service and events
  • Good computer knowledge and be word and excel proficient
  • Working knowledge of bar operations
  • WHIMIS and Food Safe Certified
