Our 6,000 faculty and staff foster a vibrant, purpose-driven community, that celebrated 200 years of academic excellence in 2018.Job SummaryDalhousie University’s Office of Advancement is responsible for all fundraising and alumni engagement activities at the institution. A team of over 90 advancement professionals cultivates relationships with alumni and friends of the university and works with donors to help them achieve personal fulfilment through philanthropic investment. Reporting to the Senior Director, Annual Giving, the Associate Development Officer (Annual Giving) has responsibility for implementing strategies to grow the Annual Giving program at Dalhousie University.Key Responsibilities

  • Personally solicit annual leadership gift prospects: an annual leadership gift prospect is classified as having the potential to make gift between $1,000 and $49,999.
  • Managing 100 -120 annual leadership gift prospects (individuals, organizations and corporations) annually. The Associate Development Officer will be in regular contact with these prospects.
  • Working with the Faculty Alumni Officer(s) to implement a comprehensive and strategic donor relations stewardship plan in order to maximize a donor’s future giving. This means ensuring that a highly personal approach is taken with every contact made with a donor or prospect by the University.
  • Actively consults with the Deans, in coordination with the Senior Director, Annual Giving and major gift officers, to determine the viability and need for potential special fundraising projects and class fundraising initiatives.
  • With support, develops communications materials (letters, brochures) for special projects and class initiatives.

NoteThe successful applicant may work in-person on campus, primarily remotely, or perform a hybrid of the two as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements.Dalhousie’s vaccine mandate has been suspended at this time, and employees no longer need to provide proof of full vaccination.   • Undergraduate degree, plus two to four years’ experience, in a progressively more responsible fundraising role (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Proven analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Business acumen, maturity and diplomacy in dealing with donors, and senior level faculty and administrative personnel.
  • Demonstrated sales or business development, leadership and planning skills.
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency.
