Job Description

At CBCL Limited, we are a successful, dynamic, growing engineering and environmental consulting firm. We have an exciting opportunity for a Automation & Controls Specialist to join our team in our Halifax office overlooking the beautiful downtown waterfront.CBCL Limited is inviting qualified candidates to apply for an Automation & Controls Specialist position located in our Halifax office. The Automation Specialist will work in the Electrical Engineering department with designers and engineers on projects throughout the Atlantic Provinces. The successful candidate will have exemplary communication and problem-solving skills combined with a sound attention to detail.The Automation Specialist will be responsible for the design of automation systems including AC/DC drive, PLC, HMI and communication network selections and integration, participation in control panel design and generation of bill of materials, cabling, PLC and HMI programming, and commissioning for a variety of facilities including institutional, industrial, and commercial.Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to company design standards, details, master specifications, quality and other standards as part of a continuous improvement environment;
  • Ability to conduct brownfield assessments to support troubleshooting or preliminary design activities during project development;
  • Develop and/or review control system network architectures using industry standard protocols and topographies;
  • Document development, planning, and/or execution of commissioning and start-up activities;
  • Prepare and/or review instrumentation datasheets for instruments such as: PIT, LIT, TIT, ESDV, SDV, FV, PV, LSH, PSH, AT (Process stream analysers, LEL, Fire), etc.;
  • Prepare and/or review Instrument Installation Details;
Your Capabilities and Credentials:
  • Five (5) plus years of experience in Automation and Controls;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a strong attention to detail;
  • Knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and experience in its application.
  • Experience commissioning control systems and troubleshooting I/O.
  • Experience with VFD configuration (Allen Bradley, ABB)
  • Experience programming PLCs and RTUs (Allen Bradley, Schneider Electric, GE, Motorola Moscad/ACE3600)
  • Experience programming HMIs (Allen Bradley, FactoryTalk View, Schneider Electric, GE, Maple Systems, C-More)
  • Experience programming SCADA (Trihedral VTscada)
  • Experience with EtherNet/IP, Modbus (TCP, RTU, and ASCII), DF-1
  • Experience setting up ethernet and serial communication networks.
