From its beginnings as a pioneer in community based economic development MetroWorks has continued to evolve and remain relevant to the needs of our community.Stone Hearth BakeryThe Stone Hearth Bakery, Café, and Catering services are social enterprises operated by the not-for-profit MetroWorks Employment Association. The association (formerly known as the Human Resource Development Association) was established in to provide meaningful training and employment opportunities for individuals 19 years of age and older who are living with mental illness and experiencing barriers to employment. The Stone Hearth Bakery opened in 1982. It is a supported work environment where program participants work five days a week alongside skilled bakers performing a number of essential tasks necessary for the operation of a full service bakery including: The use of commercial ovens; weighing and shaping dough, rolling bagels, slicing and bagging bread products, inventory control, sales and restocking of retail shelves.Position SummaryThe baker will prepare bread, rolls, muffins, pies, pastries, cakes and cookies for retail and wholesale bakeries and dining establishments.Responsibilities of the role

  • Sorting production area orders out at start of day.
  • Prepares all baked items.
  • Assists in keeping cases filled with product.
  • Maintains general list of supplies necessary to produce products.
  • Keeps production areas generally tidy, equipment cleaned, and prepared for use.
  • Keeps backup production supplies prepared for sales staff in case of need.
  • Keep production team aware that customer service is the goal!
  • Ensure timely & efficient completion of all production.
  • Assist with training bakers.
  • Monitor quality control.
  • Monitor stock rotation.
  • Inventory of baking supplies.
  • Ensure proper proofing time of products.
  • Cutting top of breads before baking.
  • Maintains quality of product by ensuring proper baking temperatures.
  • Removes product from ovens and place in proper cooling area.
  • Assist in other areas as required.
  • Reports any defects in products or machinery.
  • Cleaning of area before ending shift.
Qualifications· 2 years minimum experience as a Baker, Pastry Chef or similar role;· Familiarity with all professional kitchen equipment, including mixers, blenders and dough sheeters;· Understanding of food safety practices;· Experience with cake decoration techniques;· Excellent time-management skills;· Ability to remain calm and focused in a fast-paced environment;· Team spirit, with a customer-focused attitude;· Flexibility to work in early morning shifts;· Certification from a culinary school is a plus;· Experience working with persons of marginalized backgrounds or experiencing barriers to employment is considered a plus.HOW TO APPLY BY EMAIL: Please email your application package inclusive of a resume and cover letter to Scott Butler, Bakery Manager by February 18, 2022 at 11:59 p.m.Job Types: Full-time, PermanentSalary: From $15.00 per hourBenefits:
