Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic, hands-on Bioprocess Scientist to join our growing Fermentation Team. In this role, the Bioprocess Scientist will have the opportunity to work on process improvement to accelerate the scaling of commercially-relevant bioprocess workflows using cutting edge technologies. Strong technical, organizational, and communication skills, as well as the ability to develop creative solutions to challenging problems, are essential.Key Responsibilities

  • Develop commercially-scalable processes for the production of microbial fermentation-based products
  • Hands-on set-up, execution, and clean-up of bench-scale bioreactors to meet project milestones aimed at achieving product titers, rates, and yields at industrial specifications
  • Run shake flask experiments for medium optimization
  • Prepare biological media, stock solutions, and buffers according to SOPs as needed.
  • Collect data and communicate process metrics; utilize metrics to recommend improvement
  • Monitors study procedures to ensure data accuracy and report quality
  • Deliver high-quality results in a timely manner
  • Assist in compiling SOPs and other technical documentation
  • Keep lab notebook accurate and up-to-date
  • Contribute and adhere to all safety standards and practices
  • Support the maintenance of the company’s bioprocessing technologies via hands-on equipment troubleshooting & repair
Key Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree or higher in Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry or a related discipline with a minimum of 2 years of industrial/academia experience working directly with bench and pilot-scale bioprocess systems
  • Hands-on expertise with microbiology, fermentation, bioreactors, and bioprocess-related unit operations is a requirement
  • Competency in aseptic culture techniques
  • Maintain and propagate existing cell cultures using aseptic techniques
  • Experience with HPLC/GC and related analytical devices highly desirable
  • Strong aptitude for hands-on work with equipment along with a rigorous attention to details with experimental design, execution, and record keeping
  • Excellent time management skills, effective with multitasking
  • Ability to work successfully independently and in teams to meet project goals and timelines
  • An enthusiastic learner and a willingness to learn and operate various equipment as required
