Our 6,000 faculty and staff foster a vibrant, purpose-driven community, that celebrated 200 years of academic excellence in 2018.Job SummaryDalhousie Financial Services strives to provide the highest quality financial services and information to ensure the effective stewardship of University assets to the benefit of students and scholarly activities. Reporting to the Director, Financial Systems and Processes, the Business Analyst will be a key resource for analyzing business processes and process improvement initiatives within Financial Services. The incumbent will lead the implementation (in conjunction with leads from other areas), of the recommendations from the research/analysis carried out and approved by the relevant stakeholders within the department.Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze processes and implement improvements which make use of technology, eliminate redundant tasks, and/or minimize duplication of effort.
  • Conducts cost benefit analysis including the collection of relevant information to investigate best and worst cases for solutions identified.
  • Actively monitor and communicate project risks to foresee/identify potential problems and proactively identify solutions to address in advance.
  • Prepare project related documentation such as business cases, functional requirements, detailed test plans, presentations, process and/or data models, data analysis.
  • Develop training plans, procedures, user manuals and videos for campus and Financial Services users.
  • Liaise with other members of the financial systems team to implement such solutions where process review leads to the development of larger systems projects.
NoteThe successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.Dalhousie’s vaccine mandate has been suspended at this time, and employees no longer need to provide proof of full vaccination.   • Undergraduate business/computer science degree, plus five years’ progressive experience is required in process improvement and with financial processes and systems.
  • Equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of senior managers, and subject matter experts.
  • Demonstrated experience with financial processes, systems, and internal controls.
  • Experience with continuous improvement concepts including process mapping.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office, including Project, Visio, Word, Excel, Outlook, Share Point and PowerPoint and web tools.
  • Proven strong skills in problem-solving, in troubleshooting, and in root cause analysis.
Assets
  • Certification in the following areas – process improvement frameworks (like six sigma), business analysis, change management.
  • Training experience.
  • Experience with procurement processes including preparation of RFIs/RFPs.
