Counter Server (part-time)Position description:We are hiring for a counter service position at our cafe that is located within the Discovery Centre, a childrens museum on the waterfront. Youll work independently in our canteen-style cafe. The cafe is set up for counter service, where customers will come to you to order. Youll be responsible for taking their orders, handling money, and light prep like brewing coffee. This position can lend itself to a lot of downtime when the Discovery Centre isnt super busy (like during the school day during the school year), so its great for someone that needs a comfortable job where they can handle working independently with periods of solitude. It’s an ideal position for a student, since you can work on your school work during the quiet times, as long as you’re attentive to customers when needed.Responsibilities include:- Selling food and drinks in a counter-service environment- Knowledge of the products served to be informed of potential allergens- Maintaining quality and tracking inventory- Complying with food safety- Accurately complete cash-out procedures- Maintaining clean work spaceWhat we’re looking for:- Naturally friendly, outgoing, and welcoming- Enjoys interacting with children- Great sense of customer service and hospitality- Detail oriented- Great at multitasking- Accurate with cash- Ability to work independently- Common senseA valid food safety certificate will be required, so if you dont have one, we can help make arrangements for you to get one.Shifts: Currently the café is open from Wednesday through Sunday. Shifts will run from 8:45am-4:15pm. We are currently looking to fill approximately 4 shifts per week between 2 applicants (2 shifts each). This schedule may change as the Discovery Centre shifts its opening hours as covid ends.Pay: Pay starts at $13.35/ hour. Customers tip at their discretion and those tips are yours to keep in full.Job Type: Part-timePart-time hours: 14-25 per weekSalary: $13.35 per hourAdditional pay:
