Reporting to the Manager, Recruitment and Retention, the Career Development Consultant is responsible for leading overall professional development and learning opportunities for faculty and staff, while assisting employees in the navigation of their career progression and performance enhancement.Key Responsibilities

  • Develops methods and tools to support performance enhancement of staff and faculty in all sectors of the University consistent with employee relations agreements and strategies.
  • Coaches employees on how to navigate building a rewarding career at Dalhousie and assists employees in developing career maps.
  • Establishes strategy to encourage adoption of performance enhancing initiatives; supports unit implementation by providing advice, training and facilitation.
  • Collaborates with the Faculty of Open Learning and Career Development on delivery of programming for academic and administrative leaders.
  • Designs and implements a mentorship program and succession planning model.
  • Manages the unit’s budget and oversees the administration of funding assistance programs, such as the Tuition Reimbursement Program and the DPMG Professional Development Fund.
NoteThe successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.Dalhousie’s vaccine mandate has been suspended at this time, and employees no longer need to provide proof of full vaccination. However, health and safety risks to our community will continue to be monitored and a vaccine mandate may be reinstated if necessary.QualificationsUndergraduate degree in a relevant field along with three to five years’ relevant experience (or an equivalent combination of training and experience) is required. A certificate in adult education and/or career counselling is an asset. Considerable related experience in a complex, diverse and decentralized organization, which includes unionized and non-unionized environments with an appreciation and understanding of diversity and inclusion and related issues is essential. Exceptional consultation, interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills are required. Must be adept at networking and fostering relationships at all levels within an organization. Experience in an HR role or good understanding of the HR function is preferred.
