Our 6,000 faculty and staff foster a vibrant, purpose-driven community, that celebrated 200 years of academic excellence in 2018.Job SummaryThe Science, Information Technology, Engineering (SITE) Co-operative Education program at Dalhousie University is responsible for securing and managing quality work term opportunities for over 1,900 students annually in 29 Co-op and Work-integrated Learning (WIL) programs across four faculties and a college. Reporting to the Director, SITE, the Career Education Coordinator will deliver comprehensive, accessible, progressive advising, coaching and resources for transitioning Co-op students and non-Co-op/WIL students to assist them in meeting their needs relative to job searching, work readiness, career experiences and employment opportunities.Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate career education and professional development programs with the Director, ensuring that they meet both long-term and short-term goals of the strategic plan for the Co-op office, and increase student success in accessing and gaining career employment opportunities.
  • Develop and implement strategies for advising students and clients on programming. Develop, produce, and evaluate career development and educational materials to support student advising services, using technology to increase accessibility wherever possible.
  • Ensure open communication and education with internal and external stakeholders as an integral part of ongoing promotion and delivery of programs and services. Evaluate materials for programming and recommend new programs based on feedback from students and employers, and emerging trends.
  • Encourage and respond to student questions and concerns about progress and desired support. Develop relationships with students that transcends graduation to supporting alumni.
  • Establish and enforce policies for student participation in career services by consulting with students, employers, and faculty/academic advisors to ensure opinions and suggestions are taken into consideration.

  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Human Resources, Marketing or other relevant field, plus approximately three to five years’ relevant experience in a comparable client-based setting (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Certificate in Adult Education, Counseling or Career Counseling.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills.
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills with the proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-motivated with the proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and the demonstrated ability to learn new programs.

  • Experience in career education, co-op/work-integrated learning and/or experience within a university environment.
