Tell us how you can make a difference through your YWCA.Program OverviewSafer Space is a transitional housing project for victims and survivors (ages 18 – 29) of sexual exploitation and human trafficking. Engaging with the NSTAY (Nova Scotia Transition and Advocacy for Youth) program, this project provides youth in crisis with a safe space to stay so they can stabilize and take the first steps to regaining control over their lives. The program also provides participants with wraparound support and connect them with the services they need.Role of Support Staff

  • Provide support to participants at Safer Spaces.
  • Assist with programming, including meal preparation, recreational activities.
  • Log writing and other administrative duties.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings.
  • Basic maintenance and cleaning duties.
  • Other duties as directed by the Management or the Safer Spaces coordinator.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Experience working in a supportive role.
  • Experience working with people from diverse cultural, social and economic backgrounds.
  • Good communication skills: able to negotiate and enforce policies, provide support and encouragement and accurately maintain written logs.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Certification in Non-violent Crisis Intervention, First Aid and CPR, ASIST or willingness to obtain these at the start of employment.
  • Enthusiasm and affinity for work with youth and young adults.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and able to work in an environment that is not always predictable.
  • Must be able to provide a Criminal Record check with a Vulnerable Sector check upon hiring.
