As one of the worlds largest employee-owned companies, Graybar has the power and stability of a big corporation and the integrity and drive of a neighbourhood business.Meridia is pleased to be partnered with them to find a Credit Manager, East and West Region (Credit Manager) to join their talented team in Halifax, NS. Reporting to the Vice President & Controller, the Credit Manager will be an experienced finance professional with progressively senior management experience in credit and collections in both commercial and residential markets. They will be responsible for managing the Credit department for the Graybar Canada East and West divisions. This is an exciting opportunity for someone experienced and seasoned in credit and who is looking for their next opportunity to use their skills and knowledge in a fast paced industry.Responsibilities, among others, will include:

  • Composing concise and comprehensive correspondence, reports, and related material.
  • Maintaining accurate risk ratings for all approved transactions.
  • Initiating customer relationships to secure past due payments or initiating payment arrangements of outstanding invoices to reach Days Sales Outstanding (DSO) targets.
  • Identifying, monitoring and resolving problems affecting the non-payment of invoices while developing positive customer relations and communications.
  • Performing reference and credit reviews on new customers.
  • Communicating credit standards and clearly conveying the rationale for decisions.
  • Providing credit risk coaching and advice to sales employees to increase awareness of risk, policy, and knowledge of structuring transactions.
  • Providing assistance and guidance to Sales Representatives on the documentation and structural aspects of accounts.
  • Maintaining high degree of knowledge of commercial credit products, lease/loan structures, credit facilities, and underwriting.
  • Maintaining a clear understanding of Policy, Procedure, and Controls as they relate to credit adjudication.
  • Performing personnel activities: performance management, coaching, training, hiring and terminations.
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Undergraduate degree in finance, or related discipline.
  • Expert knowledge of credit analysis, risk management process and industry lending practices.
  • Excellent financial statement analysis skills
  • Prior hands-on experience in Credit & Collections, with 5-10 years of management experience in both Commercial and Residential markets.
  • In-depth knowledge of operational processes, technology and people management techniques.
  • Proven experience in conflict resolution skills and effective negotiating skills.
  • Strong management, reporting, prioritization and follow-up skills.
  • FCI or other recognized credit training is considered an asset.
  • Banking background in commercial lending is considered an asset.
  • Strong computer software skills (Word and Excel), combined with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
