Position DetailsPosition InformationPosition Title Dental Materials Laboratory AssistantDepartment/Unit Dental Clinical SciencesResearch Project Dentistry Dental Materials LaboratoryLocation HalifaxPosting Number GP89-22Employee Group Grant-PaidPosition Type TemporaryDuration of Contract (if applicable) 6 months, with possibility of renewalEmployment Type Full TimeFull-time Equivalency (FTE) 1.0Salary $41,860 per annum, pro-rated to $20,930 (35 hours per week) based on duration of contractAbout the OrganizationThe Dental Materials Laboratory at the Dental School examines both commercial and experimental dental resins, dental curing lights and dental CAD/CAM equipment.Job SummaryReporting to the Principal Investigator, the Dental Materials Laboratory Assistant will assist the Laboratory Manager in the overall functioning of the lab related to studies, procedures and equipment maintenance and will operate equipment that shall test dental curing lights and dental resins.Key Responsibilities

  • Design and run research projects that study dental curing lights and dental resins.
  • Assess and use dental CAD/CAM equipment, digital dentistry, and 3D printing.
  • Ensure the Bruker 70 FTIR, spectroscopy equipment, and the hardness tester remain calibrated and running smoothly.
  • Develop methods and procedures independently.
  • Perform a back-up of collected data, as required.
  • Assist the Laboratory Manager and graduate students in the lab, when required.

However, health and safety risks to our community will continue to be monitored and a vaccine mandate may be reinstated if necessary.QualificationsUndergraduate degree in Science with a strong physics, or chemistry background, is required. Experience with Labview or Python is required. Manual dexterity and familiarity with a wide range of work situations and techniques common to optics and chemical analyses are required.
