Job Description

IoM Media Ventures is a 3D animation studio located in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Our studio’s talent-friendly, encouraging atmosphere is where highly-skilled individuals come together to create ground breaking animated content and custom interactive interfaces.The Desktop Support Technician is an essential member of the Island of Misfits Team, helping the studios staff and artists produce some of the worlds most beloved animated series. This is an entry-level position, and is the perfect opportunity for an ambitious and capable individual to join our team.Responsibilities:

  • Providing desktop support to all staff, duties include:
  • Taking a lead role in assisting all users with technical problems
  • Troubleshooting and administering peripherals, printers, photocopiers and VoIP systems and devices
  • Ensuring all computer systems are up-to-date with security patches, antivirus and antimalware software and application patches
  • Providing hardware support, including working with hardware vendors to troubleshoot, RMA, and fix damaged or faulted hardware
  • Troubleshooting network problems
  • Playing a role in the administration of IT-related purchases, including:
  • Working with vendors to obtain quotes on hardware and software
  • Generating purchase orders and shepherding them through the approval process
  • Tracking IT-related inventory
  • Working closely with the Director of IT and other IT staff to brainstorm solutions to technical issues and to improve operations throughout the studio
  • Keeping up-to-date with current technologies
  • Being open to integrating new ideas and methodologies
  • Ensuring the safety, security and confidentiality of IoM Media Ventures data, and that of our clients
  • Carrying out duties in a professional and positive manner
  • Accepting other duties as determined by the Director of IT
Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in an IT role
  • Formal education/degree in computer systems
  • Thorough understanding of Windows 10 Operating System
  • Well-versed in Windows Server 2012r2 and newer.
  • Familiarity with Office 365 and Microsoft Exchange
  • Familiarity with network switching/routing fundamentals
  • Working knowledge of Linux
  • Autodesk Maya knowledge is useful
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Great team player
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Highly organized with an ability to multitask
  • Willing to learn new technologies
  • Proactive in anticipating the needs of production
