Position summary Under the direction of current MetroWorks Management the Employment Support Specialist will be a leader in providing employment support to youth as they develop their employability skills through participation in the EDGE project and with community based employers. This position will support youth enrolled in virtual EDGE that will engage youth from across Nova Scotia. The Employment Support Specialist will engage youth and make them feel respected, supported, and optimistic about their future. The Employment Support Specialist will also be the main contact point between project participants and the labour market and significant travel around the province will be required. A mileage allowance will be provided. This will be a full-time position, 37.5hrs/week – 8:30am – 4:30pm Monday –Friday. Occasional after hours work may be required depending on the needs of project participants. Workshops and youth meetings will be done virtually, with travel to the youth’s home community occasionally required. Due to the nature of the position applications from anywhere in the province will be accepted. Direct service provisions · In conjunction with project staff, meet with youth virtually or in person to discuss employment goals and identify potential employers in their community. · Connect with community based employers to facilitate employment placements. Ensure employers have information regarding incentive programs and expectations. · Connect with Youth on a regular basis to provide feedback and discuss progress · Assist youth with orienting to the workplace/specific duties and responsibilities; provide support to the youth during the transition to employment to assist in reaching the maximum level of employment capacity; act as liaison between the employer and youth if required; provide assistance and support to ensure the youth have every opportunity for success. · Meet with youth and employers to assist with the development of natural supports. · Assist youth who have difficulty marketing themselves to employers, connect with employers. Research and identify companies, industries, and growth sectors that are hiring to access job postings and uncover hidden job market opportunities. · Keep accurate records and have these records available for review as required · Use the word purple in your cover letter. Key attributes · Good knowledge of community organizations, service providers, and referral agencies · Solid understanding of NS Labour Market Information and its applications · Ability to match job seekers skills to job requirements and use a strengths-based approach to job matching · Good understanding of workplace culture and employer expectations · Good understanding of employment maintenance issues impacting a clients’ ability to sustain employment · Working knowledge of the full spectrum of pre and post-employment supports · Good understanding of the unique differences of diverse job seekers, ability to assess job readiness. · Ability to utilize various strategies and incentives to develop and maintain employer relationships. · Adherence to inclusionary practice, ethical decision making, and respect for diversity. · Knowledge of motivational interviewing techniques. · Good understanding of Youth Learning Principles.
