We value our members, volunteers, employees, and partners and strive to create a space of respect, belonging and resilience.     We have a team of passionate and determined people who share ideas and inspire others to create systemic change in the face of urgent, complex environmental issues.     ABOUT YOU    Your passion for decarbonizing electricity, strategic skills and your project management know-how will help the Energy Team effectively move their campaigns from conception to implementation.  You thrive working in collaborative, fast-paced environments and building relationships to partner with organizations, the private sector, and the public.     YOUR FOCUS  The Energy Officer will support EAC’s Energy Coordinator and help shape the direction and delivery of EAC’s advancement of the net zero-grid in Canada and the Atlantic region, stakeholder relations (government, private sector, communities), and strategic, policy-focused renewable energy initiatives within Atlantic Canada.   Key elements of the position will be:     

  • Conducting research and gathering data to contribute to the Advancing the Net-Zero Grid in Canada and the Atlantic project.   
  • Analyzing government policies and regulations related to renewable energy and electricity. 
  • Assisting in planning and delivering events, webinars, and meetings related to climate change and sustainable energy transition in Atlantic Canada. 
  • Engaging and supporting volunteers.  
  • Supporting project administration duties such as funder reporting and grant proposals. 
  • Assisting with facilitation, stakeholder consultation, and public education as needed.  
  • In cooperation with the Communications Team, researching and writing internal- and external-facing communications, including web content, social media posts, and magazine updates, and develop campaign materials and graphics for online and print use. 
  • Other duties as required.

  • At least 2-3 years of experience conducting research, reviewing literature, and writing reports. 
  • Knowledgeable about project management and energy/environmental policy. 
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written. 
  • Proven ability to analyze government policies and gather data.  
  • Experience in event planning.  
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively allocate time to complete critical productive tasks.  
  • Strong organizational and priority-setting skills.  
  • Thrives in a collaborative team environment. 
  • Project administration skills to assist funder reporting, grant proposals, and report writing.  
  • Strong work ethic and motivation to work on sustainable energy transition, climate change, renewable energy/electricity, and environmental stewardship.   
  • Education or training in engineering, public policy, natural or environmental sciences, law, or public policy. 
  • Familiarity with provincial and national energy, climate, and environmental regulations and legislation. 
  • Computer literacy in MS Office 365 (including Outlook, SharePoint, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and web-based platforms.    
Other skills and experience considered an asset:  
  • Available to work on the occasional evening/weekend; willing to travel.    These additional skills, areas of knowledge, and experiences are an asset: 
  • Experience working on energy transition, climate change, renewable energy, and environmental programs and policy. 
  • Experience working with indigenous communities. 
  • Experience working with governments on policy matters. 
  • Experience working and volunteering in a non-profit organization.   
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:    
  • Full-time position - Contract ending December 12th, 2024
  • EAC has a 4-day work week with Fridays off-totaling 30/week with some flexibility in the workday. Learn more about why here.
  • Annual salary will be $41,340
  • Cost-shared benefits plan  
  • Hybrid work environment requiring 1-2 days a week at our office in Halifax’s North End.     
  • 3 weeks paid vacation per year (pro-rated for the 4-day work week), 1 week of paid time off during the winter office closure in December, 12 paid holidays (12 per year), and paid wellness days (10 per year).
