For more information visit our website at www.adastra.ca.About the job * We are currently seeking an experienced accounting professional to fill the role of Financial Controller in our Halifax office.The Financial Controller at Ad Astra International Inc. will contribute to the overall success of the organization by performing accounting functions related to operations. The role is supported by an external CPA familiar with Ad Astra and involved in year-end and tax filings. Input from time-to-time on related companies may be required.--Primary Duties and Responsibilities * The Financial Controller will perform a range of duties:Revenue / Commissions· Prepare and process accurate student/school invoices· Prepare and process timely commission/payments to agents and schools· Reconcile discrepancies between invoice listing and sales reportsBank· Process and post incoming payments, including wire transfers and credit card payments· Process and post outgoing payments, including international wire transfers and EFTs· Prepare and maintain monthly bank and credit card reconciliationsBookkeeping and Taxes· Prepare daily accounting entries· Maintain supporting documentation in an organized way (including contracts, invoices, and receipts)· Remit payroll remittances, HST, and income tax paymentsMonth/Year End· Assist in the compilation of information for the Company’s year-end· Responsible for the preparation of internal monthly financial statements and sub-ledger reports, including:· Balance sheet· Income statement· Bank reconciliations· AR listing· AP listing· Deferred revenue· Sales report· Variance reportsPayroll· Preparation of semi-monthly payroll· Responsible for payroll compliance with Canada Revenue Agency· Maintain electronic employee records (i.e., TD1 payroll forms, void cheques)· Preparation and facilitation/approval of Record of EmploymentManagement, General, and Administration· Responsible for managing operational data integrity, confidentiality, accuracy, and back-up· Responsible for budget preparation and monitoring· Development of system controls to ensure data integrity· Development of operational procedures and documentation of data flow· Assistance with inquiries from students, management, agents, and vendors· Various administrative duties· Assist in special projects as necessary--Qualifications· Bachelor’s degree in related field· CPA designation· Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in a similar accounting and/or bookkeeping roleRequirements and Key Skills· Knowledge of Sage50 and/or Quickbooks accounting software, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, databases· Strong accuracy, attention to detail, investigative, and problem-solving skills· Ability to work independently and take initiative in accomplishing tasks or improving processes· Strong organizational and time management ability to help meet deadlinesWorking Environment· The Financial Controller will work from our Halifax office· 40 hours/week, Monday to Friday, with lieu time for occasional evenings/weekends as required (i.e. month end)· Paid international travel may be required, on occasion· Generous holiday schedule and standard vacation· Company health benefits availableReports toOwner / Executive DirectorReference ID: #211104Application deadline: 2021-11-15Expected start date: 2021-11-29Job Types: Full-time, PermanentSalary: $65,000.00-$75,000.00 per yearBenefits:
