Reporting to the Assistant Dean, Administration, the Financial Manager provides financial management and financial process expertise within the Faculty.Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the Faculty’s annual operating budget, carry-forward plan and quarterly review and year-end submissions, and ensure all units follow correct budgeting procedures. Identify variances, and offer solutions to deal with deficiencies or problems.
  • Compile, analyze and prepare multi-year budget information to assist with the submission of the faculty’s multi-year plan. Build program financial models.
  • Approve and process invoices, reimbursements, journal entries, purchase requisitions and student awards. Oversee Faculty’s ChromeRiver reimbursement submissions and approvals.
  • Key point of contact for Faculty of Management on Dalhousie financial policy and systems.
  • Provide guidance and support to faculty members and administrators on research and special project account management.
  • Oversee Faculty scholarship and award processes. Prepare financial analysis of endowment and annual fund activity.
NoteThe successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.Dalhousie’s vaccine mandate has been suspended at this time, and employees no longer need to provide proof of full vaccination.   • Undergraduate degree with five years financial/accounting experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Mastery of MS Excel, with analytical skills to interpret and model financial outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to train others in new technology and systems.
  • Capacity to work autonomously and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organization, communication, and service-oriented interpersonal skills are required.
Assets
  • Experience in a post-secondary institution or similarly complex organization
  • Prior use of Banner system and ChromeRiver
  • Accounting designation
