Requisition ID: 125118Opportunity Type: PermanentEstimated Annual Salary: 200,000 - 250,000Type of Remuneration: AFP - Academic Funding PlanAbout the OpportunityThe Division of Neurology in Central Zone is recruiting to the position of fulltime hospitalist. The position will involve provision of care to patients admitted to the inpatient neurology unit, primarily the Acute Stroke Unit, at the Halifax Infirmary. The position will be available on January 1st, 2022 and is a term position until September 30, 2022.The Division of Neurology is an integral part of the Department of Medicine and provides inpatient, outpatient, and telehealth services for Nova Scotia Health as well as the Maritime Provinces. The Acute Stroke Unit is the tertiary/quaternary centre for stroke care in Nova Scotia and provides specialized care including endovascular thrombectomy to patients from across the province.The inpatient neurology unit is a 30 bed unit based on 7.4 at the Halifax Infirmary. The majority of patients are under the Stroke Team, an excellent interdisciplinary team that includes nurse practitioner and allied health care members. Overall care is supervised by an attending neurologist who rounds daily and oversees acute stroke management decisions. The hospitalist position has been newly created to facilitate inpatient care during a temporary period of reduced neurology manpower.Responsibilities

  • The hospitalist will be responsible for the daytime general medical management of patients on the service, with potential rounding on weekends.
  • There is no nighttime call.
The Acute Stroke Unit offers a unique team approach to inpatient care where the opinions and knowledge of others is valued; information is exchanged openly and respectfully; problem solving is strong and creative; and communication with patients is effective and thoughtful.
