Visit us today and check out www.novascotia.com to see why more people from across the globe are moving here.About the OpportunityReporting to the Health Services Director, the Health Services Manager is responsible for the strategic and daily (24/7) operational leadership of three inpatient services (53 beds); the Geriatric Assessment Unit, Progressive Care Unit and the Restorative Care unit, in accordance with Nova Scotia Health (NSH) mission, vision and values and aligned with best practice for older adult hospital care.Essential components of this position include a high degree of skill and expertise in decision-making, leadership , interpersonal skills, quality improvement, change management and professional development to perform a wide variety of technical, human, conceptual, leadership, and financial management functions and behaviours. The successful candidate must demonstrate a high degree of initiative, creativity and be able to successfully establish and maintain positive collaborative relationships within the service, portfolio the zone and across the provincial network of care.Responsibilities include:

  • Providing operational and strategic leadership and direction to ensure the goals and objectives of the service are continually met
  • Managing process improvements for quality patient care and enhancing capacity to deliver excellent evidence informed care within our service and across the organization
  • Developing, implementing and maintaining an active human resource plan including recruitment, selection, interviewing and hiring
  • Preparing and analyzing all relevant financial and clinical data, reports trends and identifies where corrective action is required for budget variances, implements changes as required and evaluates the effectiveness of the changes
  • Establishing and maintaining creative and efficient communication processes across clinical teams, geographically different sites, other disciplines, and other stakeholders within NSHA as required
  • Representing discipline or service/program by active and effective participation in meetings and on committees
About YouWe would love to hear from you if you have the following:
  • Bachelor degree in a clinical health discipline
  • Masters in Nursing, Health Services Administration or Business Administration is preferred
  • Must be registered with and a member in good standing of the relevant health discipline college/association
  • Five to seven years’ clinical experience with expertise and experience in geriatrics preferred
  • Previous leadership/management experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in supporting professional nursing practice.
  • Demonstrated experience in initiating and managing multiple projects
  • Experience in a unionized environment preferred
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other disciplines and committees to achieve excellence in patient care
  • Demonstrated fiscal and human resource management
  • Requires a high level of sound judgement, initiative, and self-direction
  • Capable of analytical and creative decision making
  • Demonstrates high degrees of independent decision making, self-direction, motivation, change management knowledge and team building/leadership skills
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
