Reporting to the Associate Director, Employee Relations, the HR Administrator will provide support to the Grant-Paid Employment and Employee Relations HR Consultants, as well as the broader university community on inquiries/issues pertaining to non-academic positions (NSGEU, DPMG, CCS, Grant-Paid).Key Responsibilities

  • Provide general guidance and support to departments, principal investigators, faculty and departmental administrators on a variety of HR matters, such as performance management processes, vacation and sick leave accrual, in accordance with the appropriate collective agreement article(s), handbook or employment guide.
  • Using available templates as guidance, provide advice to managers on drafting correspondence from coaching /counseling letters to disciplinary letters, and instructions on next steps in managing employees, while ensuring collective agreements, handbook rules are adhered to.
  • Complete appointment letters for all non-competition appointments using prescribed templates.
  • Liaise with other units of Human Resources to ensure consistent practice and circulation of information and serve as a conduit for problem-solving where many service areas may be involved.
  • Provide support to hiring managers and grant paid organizations on their recruitment needs.
  • Collaborate with hiring managers on developing job content and review and edit grant-paid job postings, ensuring alignment with standard posting format, brand standards and appropriate qualifications.
NoteThe successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.Dalhousie’s vaccine mandate has been suspended at this time, and employees no longer need to provide proof of full vaccination.   • Diploma in human resources plus three years of related human resource administration experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Exceptional communication skills, especially with a broad and diverse group of contacts.
  • High level attention to detail, accuracy and analytical skills.
  • A strong sense of initiative and organizational skills.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, as well as online applications.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate as part of a team as well as being able to balance and manage multiple priorities in a high volume setting.
