The courts act independently from the government to address individual cases.For more information on the Department of Justice Court Services please visit our website: https://novascotia.ca/just/Court_Services/About Our OpportunityReporting to Supervisor of Court Administration, as an Information Processing Technician, you are responsible for being the first point of contact for overall LAN of the WAN which serves 90+ daily users at the Halifax Law Courts. You will provide technical support for FTR (for the records) audio, digital and video recording systems for Supreme Court and Court of Appeal and ensures procurement of IT hardware, software, to ensure consistent connectivity and accessibility. You will be responsible for providing a variety of technical services to the judges and staff working at the Law Courts.In this role, you will provide technical support and oversee operation of audio-video systems in conference rooms and courtrooms for the purpose of teleconferencing, videoconferencing, broadcasting, closed circuit transmissions to ensure accurate and consistent resources for FTR recordings.Primary AccountabilitiesYour responsibility in this role includes-

  • maintaining the Local Area Network (LAN) at the Law Courts,
  • maintaining central IT equipment stockroom and procuring all goods and services required for the daily operation of the Law Courts,
  • assisting in the operation of the central recording room and maintaining and verifying all equipment and maintain up-to-date surplus furniture inventory,
  • providing technical advice to judges and staff as first contact for troubleshooting and repairing hardware (computers, print devices & peripherals, telecom equipment and other equipment), infrastructure (networks) or software (web-based applications, databases, productivity software) implementing corrective action or consult with digital services and ICTS to ensure timely resolution of users IT issues
  • on regular basis providing support for recording systems for Supreme Court and Court of Appeal, completing requests for any CD, DVD, digital duplication for clients, preparing analogy, invoicing account payable and delivery to clients.
  • monitoring and maintaining all printing-reproduction equipment including ongoing maintenance and ordering, distribution, and installation of toner for all printing machines designated as court administrations, follow all evergreen recycling and toner disposal policies for printers used by staff, public and courtrooms
  • regular liaison with judges, court staff, infrastructure personnel/suppliers, Provincial Purchasing Agency and the Department of Government Services.
Qualifications and ExperienceThis is the right opportunity for you if you have completed an Information Processing Program from an accredited institution plus have 3 years of technical experience. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.You must have knowledge of LAN resources, digital recording processes/software and the ability to operate and carry out repairs to all pertinent equipment.You have strong interpersonal and communication skills and must be able to maintain confidentiality and discretion, which are requirements for this role due to the types/details of information pertaining to the Courts. You are a self-starter, can work independently/with minimum supervision and can exercise excellent judgement to be successful in this role. You must be able to work under pressure with a schedule that is prone to interruptions.We will assess the above qualifications using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.EquivalencyEquivalency include, but not limited to-
  • Completion of a Computer Science program plus 3 years of technical experience.
