Our 6,000 faculty and staff foster a vibrant, purpose-driven community, that celebrated 200 years of academic excellence in 2018.Job SummaryWithin the Faculty of Medicine , the Medical Information Technology (MedIT) unit provides technology and information support services to the medical and health education programs at Dalhousie. Reporting to the Service Delivery Manager, the IT Support Specialist will provide IT support for the faculty, staff, researchers, and students, located at both Halifax and Saint John campuses, of the Faculty of Medicine, Dalhousie University.Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance and technical consultation services for the Dalhousie Faculty of Medicine students, staff, and faculty to ensure effective and efficient utilization of computers, software, network, and telephony tools and resources.
  • Answer incoming telephone calls, emails, and in person requests to the MedIT Help Desk, monitor ticket system, and triage, address and escalate client requests or issues accordingly.
  • Manage the day to day operations of the laptop lease program for the Faculty of Medicine, including determining recommended computer models, creating and managing computer images, and working with users to assist in migrating to their new machines.
  • Liaise and work collaboratively with other technical support groups at Dalhousie, including Information Technology Services and Academic Technology Services for service delivery improvements and to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
NoteDue to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.Dalhousie’s vaccine mandate has been suspended at this time, and employees no longer need to provide proof of full vaccination. However, health and safety risks to our community will continue to be monitored and a vaccine mandate may be reinstated if necessary.Required QualificationsUndergraduate degree in Computer Science or related field, with approximately three to five years’ progressive experience in client support in a mixed PC and Macintosh environment (or an equivalent combination of training and experience) is required. Experience in a diverse range of services in technical user support, networking, and communications. Experience with Microsoft Office 365, SharePoint, Office suites, MS Windows and Mac OS X. Related industry certifications, including A+ and ITIL, are strongly preferred. Assets include experience in a post-secondary academic institution and experience providing services to remote users. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a cross-functional team environment.
