Job Description

Knowledge Translation Agent with the Canadian Research Initiative in Substance Misuse (CRISM): Atlantic NodeThe Canadian Research Initiative in Substance Misuse Atlantic Node is one of five nodes within the CRISM network, a Canada-wide interventional research network in the field of substance use. CRISM’s goal is to accelerate the transfer of scientific knowledge towards the development of new medications, psychological interventions, treatments, and services for people who use substances and those with substance use disorders.The CRISM Atlantic node acknowledges that we are working in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People. This territory is covered by the “Treaties of Peace and Friendship” which Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) People first signed with the British Crown in 1725. The treaties did not deal with surrender of lands and resources, but in fact recognized Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) title and established the rules for what was to be an ongoing relationship between nations.Position description The knowledge transfer agent (KTA) will support the Atlantic Node’s commitment to gather, develop and disseminate knowledge, results, and other relevant research findings and information. Under the direction of the CRISM Atlantic Node Principal Investigator (NPI), Dr. Sherry Stewart, the KTA will be responsible for developing and coordinating knowledge transfer (KT) plans and events with CRISM members and creating strategies for external communications and knowledge sharing with CRISM partners as it relates to improving the education, accessibility and quality of substance use services and/or interventions for people who use substances. This includes working with a multi-disciplinary team of researchers, practitioners, and people with lived and living experience, and requires creative, inclusive, and participatory approaches in promoting informational flow and wider regional representation of the Atlantic provinces. The KTA will also assist with media presence and knowledge mobilization activities for other related projects within Dr. Stewart’s lab. This position is open to anyone with relevant experience working in communications.Description of tasks

  • Plan and implement all operations associated with the transfer of knowledge, and coordinate work with internal and external resources (i.e., collaborating with research teams, communication groups, etc.)
  • Integrate existing knowledge mobilization (KM) strategies and develop frameworks that account for Atlantic Canada’s unique regional and sectoral demands as it relates to CRISM’s objectives.
  • Explore, develop, and promote on-going engagement in the wider substance use and mental health scientific communities: including scientific conferences, workshops, community events, lunch and learns, and other educational events.
  • Assist in the development of processes and materials needed for internal consultations, templates to be used in communication tools, and protocols for implementation evaluation.
  • Engage CRISM Atlantic’s working groups and councils to identify and assist in knowledge dissemination strategies and events.
  • Ensure harmony amongst the Node’s external messaging and KM strategies, ensuring principles of inclusivity, cultural sensitivity, and gender identity and sexual orientation are accounted for.
  • Monitor, document, and strengthen CRISM Atlantic’s online media presence (i.e., news articles, publications), including the development and implementation of the Node’s own website, and promoting the Node’s social media presence (i.e., LinkedIn, Twitter) with innovative, engaging strategies.

  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a professional having carried out similar or relevant functions.
  • Experience developing communications and knowledge user relations plans and strategies.
  • Capacity to analyze and popularize science with a sense of initiative, creativity, and conciseness.
  • Superior written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate complex information in a clear and concise way (French language skills considered an asset).
Preferred skills and experiences:
  • Knowledge and experience working with multidisciplinary translational research teams.
  • Experience with website and social media management, as well as WordPress.
  • Knowledge in design software from Adobe suite is considered an asset.
  • Interest in substance use intervention research and practice.
  • Experience in patient-oriented research and working with people with lived experience.
  • Flexibility for occasional travel and work outside of business hours.
Part-time: This is a 2-year, renewable PT position. Extension subject to the candidate’s assessment and availability of funds.Salary: Pay is consummate with experience and is based on $43,500 (FTE).
