The laboratory studies cancer-immune interactions using in vitro and in vivo model systems, and samples from human donors. Genetic and functional analysis is applied to understand how to leverage immune responses to cancer for precision medicine.Job SummaryReporting to the Principal Investigator, the Laboratory Research Technician will contribute to research initiatives, maintain ethics and legal approvals, help to train learners, and lead the biobanking and processing efforts. Opportunities to participate in research programs, grant and manuscript writing will be available, if desired.Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the day-to-day management of an immunology/immunogenetics laboratory, including database management, sample handling, inventory and storage, safety and database management.
  • Liaise with collaborators for samples acquisition and biobanking.
  • Manage correspondence with research ethics boards, including managing deadlines and renewals.
  • Train students and assist with research projects.
  • Develop, perform, analyze and report experiments, as directed by the Principal investigator.
  • Participate in laboratory meetings and group projects.
NoteDue to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.Dalhousie’s vaccine mandate has been suspended at this time, and employees no longer need to provide proof of full vaccination.   • Undergraduate degree in Science with an honours research project, along with a minimum of 3 years of research experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Must be proficient in the majority of the techniques, such as biobanking and inventory management, biosafety (BSLII), confidential sample handling, high parameter flow cytometry, in vivo mouse models and experimentation, high parameter immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence, cell culture, qPCR and endpoint PCR, western blotting, genotyping, molecular subcloning, bioinformatics, with a willingness to become proficient for the rest.
  • Strong organizational, time management, interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 including Sharepoint, OneDrive, Teams and Excel.
