The Interprofessional Practice and Learning team takes a leadership role in creating a culture of collaboration with a focus on team-based care, evidence-informed practice, and learning and professional development to improve health outcomes for patients, families and communities. Through strong partnerships with the academic sector, regulators, and government, the Interprofessional Practice and Learning team has an integral role in influencing and operationalizing health system priorities.ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Manager of Library Services, the Librarian Educator supports the evidence-informed practice requirements in patient care, management, research, and education. The Librarian Educator supports the process by which health care providers access, critically appraise, and use the best evidence for decision-making, and will consult and collaborate with all team members including library peers, physicians, researchers, patient education teams, and clinical team members.Within the library’s team, this Librarian Educator position will support the library’s collections and technical services needs and team. They will be responsible for:

  • Oversight of the technical systems and supervision of the Library Technicians supporting the library’s collections and document delivery service
  • Oversight of the collection development & maintenance
  • Library Services site lead, based at the QEII - Halifax Infirmary Library, for operational efficiencies
  • Leading and working collaboratively to implement and maintain content management systems supporting clinical & administrative teams
  • Being current in content management practices, industry relevant technologies, & library resources
  • Being part of the library’s leadership team to identify gaps & appropriate solutions to support the library’s mandate
  • Remaining up-to-date with advances in new technologies & resources within the industry
  • Providing training for library staff in support of new systems, operational needs, & best practices
  • Leading through measured decision-making
  • Participating in literature search & library patron consultation services
Qualifications
  • ALA accredited Master of Library and Information Studies/Master of Information required
  • A minimum of 3 years responsible experience in a hospital library or equivalent setting, a medical research library, or an Academic Health Sciences Library is required
  • Previous health science library experience an asset
  • Commitment to attain the credential within one year of employment to Membership in the Academy of Health Professionals (AHIP) (preferred), Canadian College of Health Leaders, or an approved equivalent credential
  • Knowledge of library discovery services or ILS systems such as TDNet, Primo, ProQuest-ExLibris, EBSCO Discovery Service, WorldCat Discovery
  • Knowledge of OCLC EZproxy
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365
  • Working knowledge of content management software, such as Springshare Lib Apps
  • Proven content management practices
  • Ability to plan and manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Knowledge of health information resources (i.e. PubMed, NLM) and metadata standards considered an asset
  • Application of plain language standards supporting patient care quality outcomes
  • Working knowledge of content management software, such as Springshare
  • Experience with current and emerging web design and mobile technologies such as XML/XSLT, HTML/CSS, PHP/MySQL, Python, Javascript, APIs, LTI is an asset
  • Ongoing commitment to developing professional knowledge and skills
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written are necessary including the ability to present academic and technical aspects of research subject matter in a group or individual setting
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
