Members of these groups are welcome to self-identify through their application materials if they wish.Please visit www.developns.ca for more details on Develop Nova Scotias mandate and programs.Closes: Sunday, July 24, 2022Position Summary:Reporting to the Director of Operations & Procurement, the ideal candidate, will be an experienced manager and operations professional that is completely comfortable in an office, warehouse, and/or out on property alongside your team - rain or shine. You see the big picture but can manage the finest detail through execution. With a core team of six maintenance staff, that surges to address both seasonal and activation needs, the Maintenance Manager leads our maintenance and repair efforts on properties in Halifax, Dartmouth, Bedford, Peggys Cove, and Lunenburg.The Maintenance Manager is a key people leader and ensures those who frequent Nova Scotias most visited destinations have a safe and enjoyable experience by taking a hands-on approach to coming up with practical and creative solutions to a variety of different challenges. No two days are the same in this role, as projects can include seasonal set up of both marine and property related waterfront amenities, minor construction, renovating and rejuvenating infrastructure along the waterfront, and overseeing specific events such as the Halifax Busker Festival or Evergreen Festival. As visitation and activities run on a seven-day per week basis across many of Develop Nova Scotias properties, the Maintenance Manager must always be responsive to our team, and those we support.

  • Post-secondary education in a related discipline or equivalent work experience.
  • 3 - 5 years experience leading and directly managing a maintenance team is required. Experience providing oversight on a large property portfolio is an asset.
  • Experience managing procurement processes is required. A knowledge of public RFP and or RFQ processes is an asset.
  • Significant experience leading and supporting an organizational safety program is an asset.
  • Must have strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Exceptional communication and conflict resolution skills is required. Experience dealing with both internal and public stakeholders is an asset.
  • Significant use of the Microsoft Office Suite, specifically, Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is required.
  • Experience creating and or maintaining Preventative Maintenance Programs is required. Experience with a maintenance software package is an asset.
  • Must have refined problem-solving and organizational skills, along with the ability to lead and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with building systems (HVAC, security, electrical, plumbing, etc.) is considered an asset.
  • First Aid and WHMIS training is considered an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 drivers licence is required.
  • Forklift and fall arrest training is an asset.
  • Experience with watercrafts and possession of valid Pleasure Craft Operator Card and ROC-M certificate would be considered an asset.
  • A driven, perpetually positive attitude is a must.
