Our 6,000 faculty and staff foster a vibrant, purpose-driven community, that celebrated 200 years of academic excellence in 2018.Job SummaryThe Faculty of Dentistry (FoD) operates state-of-the-art general and specialty clinics, which are an integral part of our educational programs. More than 100 dentists and dental hygienists support 167 dentistry students and 64 dental hygiene students in our clinics. Our 3600 alumni live and work all over the world, the majority of whom remain in contact with the Faculty. Reporting to the Associate Dean, Students the Manager will manage, coordinate and implement admissions activities and student events for all professional programs in the FoD, creating a positive student experience from application to convocation.Key Responsibilities

  • Provide support and advice to Admissions Committee, including recommendations for changes to regulations, policies and procedures. Perform initial assessment/evaluation of applicants’ academic credentials. Act as principal liaison with the Registrar’s Office regarding applications.
  • Communicate with national and international organizations regarding admission procedures. Develop policies for Admissions Committee. Manage all admission reporting and surveys. Supervise Admissions Administrative Assistant.
  • Advise potential applicants on FoD’s competitive application process. Organize all interviews, tours and virtual presentations. Provide post-rejection counseling to unsuccessful applicants. Support the student financial aid and scholarship process.
  • Create and distribute orientation packages for new students. Serve as the first point of contact for student advising on various university supports such as learner well-being, academic support, and financial wellness.
  • Represent the Faculty of Dentistry at admissions and recruitment events locally, nationally and internationally. Meet with prospective applicants. Establish and maintain regular contacts with pre-professional advisers. Assist in development of recruitment materials.
  • Plan and execute major student events throughout the academic year, working with FoD committees, faculty and staff as well as University teams to ensure event success. Complete post-event debriefs to identify future opportunities for improvement.
NoteThis position will be required to complete international travel at least annually in conjunction with admissions activities. Travel restrictions in effect due to Covid-19 will be recognized. As well, the position occasionally requires irregular hours including extended workdays and weekends.The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.Dalhousie’s vaccine mandate has been suspended at this time, and employees no longer need to provide proof of full vaccination. However, health and safety risks to our community will continue to be monitored and a vaccine mandate may be reinstated if necessary.Required Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in relevant field such adult education plus approximately three to five years related experience in post-secondary education (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Event planning experience.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal, written, presentation) skills.
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment and independently with strong organizational skills.
  • Eligible for international travel as well as ability to travel within Atlantic Canada including a valid Nova Scotia driver’s license.
Assets
  • Experience in data collection, data analysis and quality assurance.
