As a department, we work to promote Nova Scotia as Canada’s premier fish and seafood province.About Our OpportunityThe Nova Scotia Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture is looking for a highly motivated and dynamic person to add to its Business Development team.Reporting to the Director, Business Development the successful candidate is responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring marketing strategies to support Nova Scotia’s seafood industry in domestic and international export markets.This role includes marketing and industry engagement projects, developing and managing event promotions, managing the Nova Scotia seafood brand, the seafood quality program, and domestic marketing initiatives, digital marketing strategy execution and ongoing stakeholder relations.Primary AccountabilitiesAs the successful candidate, you will:

  • Manage the nsseafood.com website including content, directory updates and increasing brand awareness.
  • Develop and implement marketing initiatives to profile the Nova Scotia Seafood Quality Program and seafood ambassadors.
  • Assist in the development, planning and delivery of domestic and export-driven marketing development campaigns, programs, and events in cooperation with key department contacts, government partners, and industry.
  • Build and execute digital media strategy to support Nova Scotia seafood exporters through competitive research, platform determination, benchmarking, messaging, and audience identification.
    • Generate, edit, publish, and share daily content (original text, images, video or HTML) that builds meaningful connections and builds brand awareness, generates website traffic and influences national and international export audiences to buy Nova Scotia products.
    • Create editorial calendars and syndication schedules.
    • Monitor, capture, and analyze marketing data/metrics and develop related reports. Incorporate insights and best practices into future work.
  • Research, write, and edit briefing material, project proposals, and marketing collateral for promotional purpose.
  • Develop and maintain networks with domestic and international industry partners.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Marketing, Business Development or related field and 5 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years proven work experience in marketing development, digital marketing, food promotion campaigns, events or related field.
  • Exceptional writing, editing and strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven environment and maintain excellent working relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms, marketing strategy.
  • Adequate understanding of graphic design principles, website content management systems, and social media scheduling software.
  • Knowledge of the seafood industry.
  • Experience organizing and delivering food promotion events
  • Computer proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Bilingual is considered an asset.

The appointment status (‘term’, ‘temporary’ or ‘casual’) is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate.Based in Halifax, the Seafood Marketing Officer will work within a small, dedicated team to develop and support the implementation of seafood marketing and promotional activities.This position may require travel within the province, Canada, and international markets.
