Job Description

AFRICAN DIASPORA ASSOCIATION OF THE MARITIMES (A.D.A.M) JOB DETAILS – HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA JOB TITLE: Mental Health Project Coordinator COMPENSATION: Contract Part-time; Hourly REPORT: A.D.A.M Project Committee COMPENSATION: $20/hr., 16hrs/week (mostly Thursday and weekend), with additional end of contract bonus. JOB SUMMARY

  • The project coordinator in the field of mental health would need to help coordinate a project for 8 weeks.
  • Successful applicant would be tasked with inspiring and promoting the development of a culture of mental, emotional, spiritual, physical wellness and resilience across the
African community (A.D.A.M) FULL JOB DESCRIPTION Your duties will include but are not limited to: -
  • Successful candidates will be responsible for developing strategic plans, goals, and measurable objectives for mental health promotion programs, policies and services.
  • He/she would be required to raise volunteer/team that would be working together with him/her alongside with the Project Executives Committee.
  • To develop a mental health strategy based on evidence-based research and best practices across the continuum of well-being and care
  • Offer a comprehensive plan for transforming our approach to mental health. This plan will be designed to help to eliminate barriers; to build more support and inclusivity; and to reduce and eliminate stigma surrounding African mental health issues
  • The project coordinator would be responsible for booking venues and mobilizing registered participants to the venue.
  • The project coordinator will be responsible for inviting Certified Mental Health Instructor(s) for seminars and training.
  • Compiling a detailed report at the end of the project and be presented to the project committee members
  • Ensuring project team adheres to provided timelines and deliverables
  • Ensure proper documentation is maintained throughout the length of the project
  • Solving any issues that may arise during the project
  • Manage and build relationship with multiple teams
  • Analyze project data and producing progress reports
  • Creating survey tools and sharing them before the project start to get adequate knowledge of the participants and the community, as well as participants’ feedbacks after the project.
  • Develop and create tool kit for the project.
SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS
  • Completion of Post-Secondary degree/diploma in a relevant program
  • Must be more than 19+ years
  • Must have under gone Mental Health training
  • Must have experience in Project Coordination.
  • Must be mobile and live within HRM.
  • Must hold a permanent resident card or be a citizen of Canada.
  • Ability to multitask
  • Highly organized
  • Good communicator
  • Work well under pressure and with tight deadlines
  • Must know how to use office tools (word, excel, and power point)
  • 1-2 years’ work experience in the health/mental health field or experience in the counseling field /Social work preferred.
  • Work in a team environment and be a self-starter when working independently
  • A strong sense of self and the ability to make decisions in a variety of situations
  • Ability to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times
  • Ability to deal pleasantly and effectively with a wide range of people of different ages and cultures, in potentially volatile and emotionally charged situations
  • Demonstrated time management skills
  • High level of integrity and work ethic
