Job Description

Mission Mart is a thrift store staffed 90% by volunteers, ensuring higher net profit margin to support the everyday work of Souls Harbour Rescue Mission — providing food, clothing, shelter, life changing programs and a message of Hope in Halifax, Bridgewater, Truro and Eastern Shore.Mission Mart is hiring for our evening production shift. We want to make sure we always have a variety of merchandise going out to the floor so our customers have the best products and choice.We are looking for 3 people who have an interest in social entrepreneurship or retail thrift. Our store is a large 17,000 square feet and supports programs and services of Souls Harbour Rescue Mission in Halifax, Bridgewater, Truro and Eastern Shore.Your Mission Marty job will include sorting and pricing clothing, electronics and housewares donations. You should have a great work ethic, be detail oriented, able to work independently with minimal supervision, and be confident in your ability to make a decision. Personal flexibility is a must as you will be cross trained across other store departments. You must be willing to work evenings and weekends (with high flexibility of hours within those times of day.)Qualifications:

  • Able to follow instructions and work independently
  • Hard working & flexible: able to deal with changing duties
  • Team player - able to work within a mixed staff and volunteer team
Objectives: Assisting Production Supervisor and working as a member of the production team with a focus on ensuring there is adequate merchandise being priced and prepped for the sales floor.Maintain a welcoming store environment for shoppers, volunteers and donorsCross train in other positions in the store to be able to fill for emergency staff shortages.Specific Duties:
  • Sorting, hanging and pricing merchandise for sales floor
  • Assist Managers with daily operations - receiving, sorting, merchandising and cash
  • Help ensure all areas of the store are clean, clear and meet safety standards
  • Communicate on an ongoing basis with volunteers and customers to gain community support and to solicit feedback to improve store activities
  • Create a positive, uplifting environment for customers, volunteers and donors
  • Be familiar with the volunteer handbook policies and procedures
  • Support the needs of the Mission
