Halifax Grain Elevator Limited is Atlantic Canadas only grain import and export facility. A private company located in the Port of Halifax; we have been in operation since 1985. We handle grain shipments arriving by ship and rail from the Great Lakes and distribute grain throughout Atlantic Canada. We also store and distribute locally produced industrial wood pellets.We are currently looking for a competent Office Assistant to help with the organization and running of the daily administrative operations of the company. The ideal candidate will be a hard-working professional able to undertake a variety of office support tasks and work diligently under pressure. This person will be comfortable working with a high degree of attention to detail and discretion as well as incorporating new and effective ways to achieve better results. We provide competitive pay, comprehensive benefits, and a positive and supportive work environment.Duties include: · Providing administrative support to management· Scanning and digital filing of documents· Accounts payable and payroll using QuickBooks including reconciliation of supplier accounts and preparation of payroll reports· Data entry of daily transactions using our customized grain accounting system· Assisting truck drivers when needed· Responding to customers in a timely professional manner· Assist with other administrative duties as assigned and contribute as part of the team to fulfill the variety of tasks necessary to run the office effectivelyRequirements: · Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word & Outlook· Experience with QuickBooks (Desktop version) as well as payroll processing would be considered an asset· Excellent verbal and written English communication skills· Effective interpersonal skills with clients and team members· Excellent time management and organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work effectively and adapt to changing workload demands· Excellent attention to detail and a high regard for accuracy· Willingness to learn and cross train to cover other positions· Self motivated with a positive attitude and a good work ethic with a high regard for punctuality· High school diploma or equivalent.
