Position DetailsPosition InformationPosition Title Part-Time Academic SEASIDE 2023: BIOL 3221 - Diversity of Algae - Summer 2023Posting Number PTAP1753PDepartment/Unit BiologyLocation HalifaxJob Summary & Key ResponsibilitiesThe part-time academic will be responsible for delivering the lectures and laboratory components of BIOL 3221.03, “Diversity of Algae”. This course is part of the SEASIDE program and will be offered in the summer session, April 26 – May 13, 2023, Monday through Saturday, approx. 0900-1655. Responsibilities include all aspects of teaching and administering the course, including lectures, labs, test preparation, planning field trips, hiring/supervising TA’s and evaluation of tests and reports. The part-time academic will also be responsible for preparing a budget in consultation with the program director and keeping related expenses within the approved budget. The part-time academic should expect to spend considerable time before and after the official course dates in preparation for the course and marking assignments. Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus, or out on field trips if appropriate. The position reports to the Chair of the Department.Qualifications/Requirements of PositionA graduate degree in Biology or related field and research experience directly related to the topic of the course. Preference will be given to candidates possessing a Ph.D. and/or previous university teaching experience in the subject of the course.
