Our 6,000 faculty and staff foster a vibrant, purpose-driven community, that celebrated 200 years of academic excellence in 2018.Job SummaryThe Faculty of Dentistry operates state-of-the-art general and specialty clinics to support our educational programs. Reporting to the Manager via the Supervisor, Patient Services, the Patient & Student Support Assistant will work as part of a team providing administrative and front-line customer service support to the various undergraduate, graduate and faculty practice clinics.Key Responsibilities

  • Consult with faculty, and schedule patient appointments, ensuring dentists, students, and facilities are booked appropriately. Triage patients in person and by phone to identify emergencies based on Faculty criteria.
  • Register, update, code and check in patients for appointments using the Clinic Information System software, axiUm, while providing a welcoming and professional environment.
  • Determine patient type/category and analyze treatment plans for further submissions for insurance or alternate coverages.
  • Review patient accounts for billing purposes, enter treatments and review account status, including reconciling daily receivables & receipts.
  • Provide support to students, faculty and staff by ensuring student assignments and faculty and staff coverage are organized, participating in monthly group practice planning meetings and providing updates regarding patient progress, and communication and treatment issues.
  • Work with Clinical Supervisors, dental assistants, and other members of the team to identify and implement changes resulting from technology and equipment issues, patient needs, etc.
NoteDue to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.Dalhousie’s vaccine mandate has been suspended at this time, and employees no longer need to provide proof of full vaccination. However, health and safety risks to our community will continue to be monitored and a vaccine mandate may be reinstated if necessary.Required Qualifications
  • Diploma in Dental Office Management program or a Dental Assisting Program with three to five years’ work experience in an administrative capacity in a dental office (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Proficient data entry skills, and Microsoft office software skills.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must demonstrate strong patient confidentiality skills.
Assets
  • Experience in the use of a dental office management program such as Abledent or Dentrix etc.
